Women's Swimming & Diving Closes Regular Season With Strong Performances in Home Dual Meet With Missouri

Hallie Dixon Sets New School Record in 200 Freestyle

O'FALLON, Ill. – The McKendree University women's swimming and diving team closed out the regular season here Saturday by winning one event, placing second in 12 events and recording a school record in the 200 freestyle in a dual meet against 18th-ranked University of Missouri at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex Pool.
 
In Saturday's meet, the NCAA Division I Tigers collected a 184-67 win over the 16th-ranked Bearcats.
 
Against Missouri, the top performance of the meet was turned in by senior Hallie Dixon (Jeffersonville, Ind./Jeffersonville) as she set a new school record in the 200 freestyle as she recorded an NCAA 'B' time of 1:52.60 and finished seventh in the event. Dixon's time bettered the old school record of 1:51.02 set by Meredith Geyer at the 2018 Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships.
 
In addition to setting a school record and an NCAA 'B' time in the 200 freestyle, Dixon also won the 200 IM with an NCAA 'B' time of 2:05.12, which was a McKendree season best time. Along with Dixon, graduate student Molly Smalley (Windhoek, Namibia/Plymouth College) was second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:06.36 and she was also second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:15.04.
 
Freshman Karley Sonnenberg (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) also recorded an NCAA 'B' time in the 50 freestyle as she swam a time of 23.19 on the lead leg of the 200 freestyle relay. McKendree's 200 freestyle relay team was second with a season best time of 1:34.24. The other members of the team were freshman Aurora Abbruscato (Reggio Emilia, Italy/I.I.S. Blaise Pascal), sophomore Alexis Kachkin (Glenview, Ill.Glenbrook South) and senior Abigail Rumpp (Knoxville, Tenn./L&N STEM Academy).
 
Sophomore Regan Gubera (Jamestown, Ind./Western Boone) was second in both the 1 and 3-meter diving events as she scored a 214.20 in the 1-meter and 239.18 in the 3-meter.
 
Junior Emily Drabick (Barto, Pa./Florida Southern) was second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:07.72 and was fourth in the 200 breaststroke (2:32.76).
 
Sophomore Vanda Vorshazy (Herceghalom, Hungary/Saint Joseph) was second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 57.91, while the other second place event finisher was junior Grace Credit (La Grange Highlands, Ill./Lyons Township), who was second in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:24.85.
 
The Bearcats had three of the top five finishers in the 100 freestyle as Sonnenberg was second, Abbrusacato was fourth with a time of 52.64 and Kachkin was fifth with a time of 52.74.
 
With the regular season complete, the Bearcats will now turn its attention to the 2022 GLVC Swimming Championships, which are scheduled for Feb. 9-12 at the Elkhart Health & Aquatics Center in Elkhart, Ind.
