PEORIA, Ill. – The McKendree University women's cross country team closed out its regular season meet schedule here Friday afternoon as they posted a 19th place finish out of 22 teams in the Women's White Race at the Bradley University Pink Classic held at Newman Golf Course. Friday's event was divided into two races – a Red Race ('A' Race) and a White Race ('B' Race).
At the event, McKendree scored a total of 556 points to finish 15th in the White Race. Grand Valley State won the event with a total of 24 points, while Loyola-Chicago was second with 82 points and South Dakota State placed third with 124 points.
McKendree was one of two Division II schools that competed in the meet, as 11 of 22 schools were Division I, while five of the schools were Division III and four junior colleges sent teams.
Leading the way for the Bearcats for the second consecutive meet was sophomore
Reagan Lucas (Freeburg, Ill./Freeburg) as she ran a 6K time of 25:54.7 to finish in 117th place overall.
Purdue-Fort Wayne's Madison King was the top overall finisher as she ran the 6K course in a time of 21:36.2. Northwestern's Hannah Hall was second with a 6K time of 21:45.2 and Grand Valley State's Shayna Altvater was third with a 6K time of 21:46.4.
The Bearcats contingent of five runners averaged a time of 28:06 overall in its first 6K race of the season.
Freshman
Sophia Paschal (Godfrey, Ill./Alton) was the next Bearcat runner to cross the finish line as she recorded a 6K time of 27:35.8 to finish in 156th place. Paschal has now been either the top finisher or No. 2 runner in all five races this season for the Bearcats.
Freshman
Azia Douglas (Cahokia Heights, Ill./Althoff Catholic) was the next to cross the finish line as she ran a 6K time of 28:07.0 to finish in 161st place overall.
A third freshman,
Tori King (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) was the fourth Bearcat finisher as she recorded a 6K time of 28:46.2 to finish in 166th place overall.
The fifth and final finisher for the Bearcats was freshman
Colleen Zinke (Maryville, Ill./Collinsville), who ran a 6K time of 30:10.9 to finish in 171st place.
McKendree will now turn its attention to the postseason as the Bearcats will next be in action on Saturday, Nov. 5 as they compete in the 2022 Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships, which will be hosted by McKendree and held at the Principia North Farm XC Course in Elsah, Ill.
