Stiffler, Bova collect first-team selections

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - McKendree University women's soccer added a trio of honors on Tuesday morning as the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) released its 2022 All-Midwest Region Teams with junior forward Anna Stiffler, senior defender Morgan Bova, and senior midfielder Allison Frederking all earning selections. Stiffler and Bova were named All-Midwest first team while Frederking nabbed a spot on the second team.

The Bearcats collect the postseason honors after having six individuals named All-GLVC with Stiffler, Bova, and Frederking all making the GLVC's first team.

FIRST TEAM
Anna Stiffler | Jr. | Forward | O'Fallon, Mo.
Stiffler, a product of St. Dominic and O'Fallon, Missouri-native, continued her prowess on the attack this season with 14 goals, two assists, six game-winners, and 30 points in 20 games. She earned the Great Lakes Valley Conference's Offensive Player of the Year while being named to the league's first team unanimously. The 2022 honors marked her third All-GLVC selection, second First Team selection, and second GLVC Major Award in her career. The forward ranks second all-time in [NCAA] single-season goals (14) at McKendree as the last Bearcat to win the GLVC's Offensive Player of the Year honors, Sydnee Carroll, fired 17 in 2016 season. The first-team selection finished the 2022 campaign as the league leader in a multitude of conference categories, including: points (30), points per game (1.50), goals (14), goals per game (0.70), and game-winning goals (6). The junior scored in nine of 12 GLVC games and 13 of 20 games overall on the 2022 campaign. On the season, Stiffler has fired 88 shots with 43 on frame (0.489) in over 1400 minutes of action. She owns one multi-goal outing against Kentucky Wesleyan (9/3/22) while having a stretch of scoring in five-straight contests (9/23-10/7). It was her first unanimous selection to the GLVC's first team. Her offensive firepower helped McKendree achieve a program-feat with its first ever undefeated regular season.

The 2022 season marked back-to-back years with 20-plus points for Stiffler while it was her first year of scoring 10-plus goals. The junior has started all 20 games and has started all but two in her time at McKendree (54/56 starts). Stiffler is the former GLVC Freshman of the year (2020-21), when she fired eight goals and dished-out three assists for 19 points while scoring four game-winning goals. In 2021, the St Dominic-product played in 19 games with eight scores, five assists, three game-winners, for 21 total points.

In the NCAA DII, Stiffler ranks in multiple categories (as of 11/15/22), topping-out in game-winning goals with six, which is tied for fifth in the nation. She ranks t-20th in total goals (14), t-22nd in total points (30), t-25th in goals per game (0.70), and t-40th in points per game (1.50).

Morgan Bova | Sr. | Defender | Troy, Mo.
Bova collected her third All-GLVC honor and her second first-team selection in 2022, as she continued to be a staple in the Bearcats' back line. The Troy, Missouri-native and Troy Buchanan product, logged nearly 1800 minutes in 20 games and starts on the season. Bova fired two goals on the year as she fired the game-winner over UIndy in the quarterfinal of the GLVC Tournament on October 30. The senior also dished-out three assists this fall, totaling seven points. As a leader on the back line for the McKendree defense, she helped her team to an undefeated regular season for the first time in program history while the defense allowed just 15 goals (0.75 per game) on just 6.0 shots per game. Bova was also named the James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Honoree for the Bearcats.

In her career, the Troy Buchanan product started 66 of 69 contests played, including 39-straight starts between the 2021 and 2022 seasons. During those two campaigns, Bova logged over 3500 minutes and played just under 6000 minutes during her four-year career.

SECOND TEAM
Allison Frederking | Sr. | Midfielder | Weldon Springs, Mo.
Frederking, a product of Incarnate Word, collected her first All-GLVC honors in 2022 as she started all 20 contests for the Bearcats in the midfield, logging just under 1700 minutes on the pitch. Frederking fired three goals with six total points with two of her scores earning game-winner status. Her goals against Quincy (9/23) and William Jewell (10/2) both served as game-winning scores for the Bearcats. The Weldon Springs, Missouri-native started all games for a second-straight season while playing a major role throughout the midfield on the year. Frederking totals 39-straight starts with fellow senior Morgan Bova, playing nearly 3100 minutes in the process. Over that stretch, she fired five goals and dished-out one assist to total 11 points.
