Men's Wrestling Places Five in Gold Division at Lindenwood Open

Five Place in Black (Fr/So) Division at the Open

ST. CHARLES, Mo. - No.11 McKendree University men's wrestling finished out the Lindenwood Open on Saturday evening with five placers in the gold division and five in the black (Fr./So.) division. The Bearcats' highest finish in the gold bracket pools was second with 165lb redshirt sophomore Cory Peterson and while 149lb freshman Logan Rathjen finished first in the 149B bracket and second overall in 149. McKendree will be back in action on December 3 in Kenosha, Wisconsin, for the Jim Koch Open at UW-Parkside.

GOLD 165
Peterson took second in the five-division tournament, going 3-1 in the one-day outing. The redshirt sophomore began things with a 20-4 technical fall win over MoBap's Trentin Helton. Peterson paired two decision victories following his opening win to push his way to the first place match. His quarterfinal win came against James Conway of Mizzou, 3-1, before he defeated Ty Lucas of Central Oklahoma, 2-1. The first place matchup came down to Gavin Londoff of Lindenwood and Peterson, which was claimed by Londoff, 2-0.

BLACK 149
The freshman Rathjen fired-off in the Lindenwood Open as he went 4-0 in his primary bracket to finish first in the 149B. The Kansas City, Missouri-native began the tournament with a tech fall victory, winning 16-0 over Lyon's Luke Combs. In the quaterfinal and semifinal rounds, Rathjen grabbed two decision victories with wins over Triton's Anthony Bitner (3-2) and Quincy's Easton Norris (10-3). The first place match featured Rathjen and Jacob Adams of Arkansas-Little Rock, which the Bearcat won by 3-2 decision. 

Rathjen entered the 149 combined championship match with Iowa's Joel Jesuroga, which was taken by the Hawkeyes by 4-1 decision.
