Men's Swimming Posts Dominating 166-38 Road Win Saturday Over Truman State

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The No. 2 ranked McKendree men's swimming team picked up its second win this weekend here Saturday as they posted a 166-38 dual meet win over Truman State at Pershing Natatorium on the Truman State campus.
 
Saturday's win over Truman State came one day after the Bearcats earned a 151-145 home win on Friday over No. 1 ranked Indianapolis.
 
With the win, McKendree improved to 6-0 on the season and 3-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while Truman State fell to 1-4 and 1-2 in the GLVC.
 
Against the Bulldogs, the Bearcats won 10 of the 11 events that were held, including winning both of the relay events – 400 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay.
 
Four Bearcats won multiple events in Saturday's dual as freshman Mario Perez Torrado (Madrid, Spain/Gredos San Diego) won three events, including two individual events, while junior Filipe Pinheiro (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Colegio So Cubo), sophomore Patryk Rozenek (Radlin, Poland/Zsoms Raciborz) and fifth-year senior Gregg Lichinsky (West Des Moines, Iowa/West Des Moines Valley).
 
Along with winning 10 events, the Bearcats went first and second in six of its nine event wins, while also placing in the Top 5 in one event and the Top 4 in two events.
 
Saturday's meet began with 400 medley relay and the Bearcats opened with a win as the 'A' Relay Team posted a winning time of 3:23.23 to finish in first place. The members of the winning relay team were Rozenek, Pinheiro, sophomore Alireza Yavari (Isfahan, Iran/Shayestegan) and sophomore Arthur Souza (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colego Saber). The 'B' Relay Team of sophomore Gavin Wagner (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County), sophomore Ethan Hanson (Houlton, Wis./Hudson), freshman Joey Ovanic (Utica, Ill./Ottawa) and freshman Finn Moseley (Devonshire, Bermuda/Plymouth College) was third with a time of 3:37.03.
 
The Bearcats would go first, second and third in the 1,000 freestyle as junior Chance Conde (Jacksonville, Fla./Indian River State College) won the event in a time of 9:42.15, while sophomore Jackson Lustig (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) was second with a time of 9:45.58 and freshman Matthew Stooke (O'Fallon, Ill./First Baptist Academy) was third with a time of 10:20.94.
 
The lone event McKendree didn't win on the men's side was the 200 freestyle as Truman's AJ Kohler won the event in a time of 1:40.79. The Bearcats, though, held the next five spots as freshman Kadence Griffin (Prosper, Texas/Prosper) was second with a time of 1:47.64, while Lichinsky was third with a time of 1:48.19 and sophomore Abram Hagedorn (Oregon, Ohio/Toledo School for the Arts) was fourth with a time of 1:48.63.
 
In the next event, the 50 freestyle, Perez Torrado won his first individual event as he recorded a time of 21.08. Souza was third with a time of 21.33 and freshman Kirk Brotherton (North Liberty, Iowa/Iowa City West) was third with a time of 21.85.
Freshman Preston Troyer (Dayton, Ohio/Xenia Christian) would capture first place in the 400 IM with a time of 4:14.61.
 
The Bearcats would go first and second in the 100 butterfly and Lustig was first with a time of 49.68 and Yavari was second with a time of 50.52.
 
In the 100 freestyle, the Bearcats finished first through sixth as Lichinsky took home first with a time of 45.80, while sophomore Nick Khatkovyy (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) was second with a time of 48.04 and Hagedorn was third with a time of 48.19.
 
The next event was the 100 backstroke and the Bearcats would also go first, second, third, fourth and fifth in the event as Perez Torrado took home first place with a time of 51.11. Junior Colton Grimes (Champaign, Ill./Champaign Central) was second with a time of 52.66 and freshman Caden Brooks (Princeton, Ill./Princeton) was third with a time of 53.48.
 
Sophomore Leo Gandaria-Hernandez (Milwaukee, Wis./Greenfield) and Souza went 1-2 in the 500 freestyle with times of 4:43.35 and 4:47.47 respectively.
 
The Bearcats went first through fourth in the 100 breaststroke ass Pinheiro took home first place with a winning time of 56.69, while senior Caleb Law (Anchorage, Alaska/Robert Service) was second with a time of 59.41. Freshman Noah Tague (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson) was third with a time of 1:00.25 and freshman Ty Miller (Arlington, Texas/Arlington) was fourth with a time of 1:00.55.
 
In the final event of the meet, the Bearcats captured first place in the 200 freestyle relay as the 'A' Team of Perez Torrado, Law, Rozenek and Lichinsky recorded a time of 1:23.30. The 'B' Team of Brotherton, Khatkovyy, Moseley and Gandaria-Hernandez was third with a time of 1:26.08 and the 'C' Team of Grimes, Ovanic, sophomore Filip Cigic (Zagreb, Croatia/Sportska Gimnazija) and Conde was fourth with a time of 1:29.40.
 
The Bearcats return to action on Nov. 16-18 as they compete at the Mizzou Invitational in Columbia, Mo.
