Zeke Waltz fired-off in the two-day open with a second place finish in his weight class behind a 5-1 weekend, totaling 21.5 team points. The Bearcats' other placer was 184 senior
Joshua Jones, who grabbed an eighth-place finish with a 3-3 record. McKendree will be back in action at the NWCA National Duals competition on January 6-7 in Louisville, Kentucky at the Kentucky Expo Center.
174 CLASS
Waltz, a native of Jerseyville, Illinois, wrestled into the 174 finals of the largest Division II tournament, beginning with a strong 19-4 tech fall win against Emmanuel's Grady Tisdale. Following the tech fall win, Waltz grabbed a pair of decision victories over Dayton Fields of Newberry (7-4) and Hunter DeLong of Glenville State (7-3), which placed him in the championship quarterfinal. In the championship bracket quarterfinal, the redshirt freshman held a 6-1 lead over Notre Dame College's Hank Carey prior to Carey suffering an injury. Waltz entered the championship semifinal with the quarterfinal victory. Waltz continued his impressive weekend with a semifinal win over Central Oklahoma's Tre'Vaughn Craig with a pinfall at the 2:13 mark. In the title bout, McKendree's Waltz faced #6 Max Bruss of UMary. The redshirt freshman narrowly dropped the first-place matchup on a 4-2 decision, taking second place in his 174 weight class.
