Correa Sarmiento Named GLVC Women's Bowling Athlete of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the third consecutive week and fourth time in 2022, McKendree University has taken home the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Bowling Athlete of the Week award as fifth-year senior Isabella Correa Sarmiento (Cali. Colombia/Colegio Leonistico La Merced) earned the accolade from the league office on Thursday.

Correa Sarmiento earns her first career Athlete of the Week honor and is the second consecutive Bearcat to be recognized by the league as junior Rebecca Hagerman (Loves Park, Ill./Harlem) was honored last week and fifth-year senior Britaney Myers (Mechanicsville, NY/Stillwater) was honored on Jan. 28. The other Bearcat honored this season was junior Kayla Smith (Salem, Ill./Salem) as she earned the Bowler of the Week honor on Jan. 14.

Correa Sarmiento earns this week's Women's Bowling Athlete of the Week accolade after taking home first place honors at last weekend's Columbia 300 Saints Invitational hosted by Maryville University. At the event, she was the Tournament MVP after being the top individual with a 1,092 total pinfall and an average of 218.40 per game. Recorded a 206.10 average in her Baker games.

She bowled over 200 in three of her five traditional games, including a high of 263 against Maryville. Also recorded a 49 percent strike percentage, a 95.2 makeable spare average and a 100 single pin spare percentage in Baker scoring and had a 64 percent strike percentage, 80 percent makeable spare percentage and a 66.7 single pin spare percentage in traditional games.

Correa Sarmiento's performance helped the then No. 2 ranked Bearcats take home the team title at the five-team event hosted at Bowlero Lakeside in Valley Park, Mo. At the event, McKendree posted a 7-1 record and finished with a total pinfall of 10,100 and averaged 202.0 in 50 games. The tournament title was the second in 2022 for the Bearcats as they also won the Stormin' Blue & White Vegas Classic in early January.

McKendree returns to the lanes next weekend (Feb. 18-20) as they compete at the Mid-Winter Invitational hosted by Arkansas State University and held in Jonesboro, Ark.
