ST. CHARLES, Mo. - McKendree University's men's and women's track and field programs competed Friday and Saturday at the Dick Cochran Classic hosted by Lindenwood University.
The women's team finished sixth out of 16 teams after scoring 37 points, while the men's team was seventh out of 13 teams after scoring 32 points.
The women's team had nine Top 8 finishes and a personal best. Junior thrower Ndia Johnson (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) was third in the hammer throw with a personal best throw of 48.71 meters (159-10). The women's 4x100 meter relay team of junior sprinter Sanique Rose (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Iowa Western CC), freshman sprinter Laila Searcy (Centreville, Ill./Belleville West), senior sprinter Ciara Hampton (Belleville, Ill./Iowa Western CC) and freshman sprinter Brianna Sarver (Pana, Ill./Pana) finished fourth in a time of 50.84. Senior Kayla Tirey (Collinsville, Ill./Collinsville) was fifth in the 5,000 meter with a time of 21:41.68 while senior Madelyn Tepe (Venedy, Ill./Okawville) was sixth in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:28.26.
The men's team had four Top 8 finishes along with three personal bests. Sophomore sprinter Malachi Carroll (Omaha, Neb./Iowa Western CC) finished second in the 100-meter dash with time of 10.35. Graduate student hurdler Demetrius Walker (Commerce, Ga./Emmanuel) was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 15.21 while placing fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.95. Freshman high jumper Brendan Harter (St. Louis, Mo./Desmet Jesuit) was second in the high jump with a height of 1.90 meters (6-2.75).
The Bearcats return to action May 5-7 as they compete at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoor Championships hosted by Southwest Baptist in Bolivar, Mo.
