McKendree Athletics Finishes Ninth in 2021-22 GLVC Commissioner's Cup

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – McKendree University finished ninth in the 2021-22 Great Lakes Valley Conference Commissioner's Cup standings that were announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
 
The Bearcats scored a total of 52 points in the league's seven core sports in this year's Commissioner's Cup. It marks the second straight Top 10 finish for McKendree for the GLVC Commissioner's Cup standings as they scored 58 points to finish in eighth place in 2020-21.
 
Points are allocated for the Commissioner's Cup based on the athletic department's finish in the GLVC's postseason tournaments and regular season standings in men's soccer, women's soccer, volleyball, men's basketball, women's basketball, softball, and baseball. All 15 conference member schools sponsor those sports at the intercollegiate level.
 
During the 2021-22 season, McKendree, which is under the direction of athletics director Anthony Francis, was five points in front of 10th place Maryville (47 points) and one point behind eighth place Lindenwood (53 points). Drury won its second-ever GLVC Commissioner's Cup and first since 2014-15 as the Panthers scored 77 points as they were one point in front of runners-up Indianapolis and Lewis, who each scored a total of 76 points.
 
In 2021-22, McKendree qualified for the GLVC Tournament in four of the league's seven core sports this past year as the women's soccer team fell 5-4 on penalty kicks in the quarterfinals of the GLVC Tournament to UMSL, while the men's soccer team fell 10-9 on penalty kicks in the  first round of the GLVC Tournament to Maryville, the men's basketball went 1-1 in the GLVC Tournament as they defeated Quincy (77-40) in the first round, before falling 68-58 in the quarterfinals to Lewis and the women's basketball team fell in the first round of the GLVC Tournament to UMSL (76-50).
 
McKendree scored the most points in women's soccer with 13, while the men's soccer team scored 10 points and the men's basketball team scored nine points. The baseball team scored eight points, while the softball team scored seven points, the women's volleyball team scored three points and women's basketball scored two points.
 
For the 2021-22 school year, McKendree won a total of four GLVC titles as the women's soccer team won the GLVC regular season title, while the men's tennis, men's wrestling, and women's bowling won GLVC Tournament championships. Additionally, the Bearcats captured regional titles in women's wrestling and bowling, took home national championships in both women's wrestling and women's bowling and advanced to NCAA postseason play in women's soccer, men's wrestling, women's swimming & diving, men's swimming & diving, women's bowling, men's tennis, women's golf, and men's golf.
 
Instituted prior to the 2002-02 season, the Commissioner's Cup has had eight different institutions stake claim to the award with Drury capturing its second award this season. Former league member Northern Kentucky won eight Commissioner's Cups, while Southern Indiana has won three and Indianapolis and Drury have earned two. Former members Bellarmine and SIU-Edwardsville, along with current members Lewis and Rockhurst have each taken home one Commissioner's Cup honor.
