BOLIVAR, Mo. - McKendree University's men's and women's track and field programs competed Friday and Saturday at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoor Championships hosted by Southwest Baptist University.
The men's team finished eighth out of 14 teams after scoring 30 points, while the women's team was 11th out of 13 teams after scoring 10 points.
The men's team had five Top 5 finishes. Sophomore sprinter Malachi Carroll (Omaha, Neb./Iowa Western CC) finished second in the 100-meter dash with time of 10.66 while placing fourth in the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.03. Senior sprinter Johnathan Bumpers was fifth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.32. Freshman high jumper Brendan Harter (St. Louis, Mo./Desmet Jesuit) was third in the high jump with a height of 1.90 meters (6-2.75). Senior jumper Dontea Jones (Centralia, Ill./Centralia) finished fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 13.93 metes (45-8.50). Jones was also the Bearcats' representative on the GLVC James R. Spalding Individual Sportsmanship Award.
The women's team had two Top 5 finishes and two season bests. Junior thrower Ndia Johnson (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) was fourth in the hammer throw with a throw of 47.60 meters (156-2). The women's 4x100 meter relay team of junior sprinter Sanique Rose (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Iowa Western CC), sophomore sprinter Kiara Spates (Markham, Ill./Thornton Township), senior sprinter Ciara Hampton (Belleville, Ill./Iowa Western CC) and freshman sprinter Brianna Sarver (Pana, Ill./Pana) finished fifth in a season best time of 50.45. Senior Madelyn Tepe (Venedy, Ill./Okawville), Hampton, freshman sprinter Laila Searcy (Centreville, Ill./Belleville West) and Sarver finshed with a season best 4:15.86 in the 4x400 meter relay. Tepe was also the Bearcats representative of the James R. Splading Indiviual Sportsmanship Award.
The Bearcats return to action May 12-13 at the Dr. Keeler Invitational last chance meet in Naperville, Ill. hosted by North Central College.
