McKendree University men's swimming and diving picked up a win over Lindenwood on Friday with a final score of 140-101. This dominant win puts McKendree men's record at 7-0 for the season, while Lindenwood fell to 1-2. The combined men and women's score was 260-223 in favor of McKendree.
In their first competition since Nov. 2022, the Bearcats won 9 out of 11 events, including both relays – 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay. Junior Chance Conde and sophomore Jackson Lustig both won multiple individual events in Friday's dual.
The Bearcats showed impressive depth when they finished first, second and third in both the 50 freestyle and the 1000 freestyle. Conde won the 1000 freestyle with a time of 9:39.26 and shaved over two seconds off his seed time as was followed by freshmen Caden Brooks and Preston Troyer. Senior Caleb Law won the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.39, and was followed by freshman Mario Perez Torrado and fifth-year senior Gregg Lichinsky, who went 20.77 and 20.82 respectively.
Friday's meet started with McKendree finishing first and third in the 200 Medley Relay. The 'A' relay posted a winning time of 1:29.49 with sophomore Patryk Rozenek, junior Filipe Pinheiro, Lustig and Law. The 'B' relay posted a time of 1:32.25.
In the 500 freestyle, Conde snagged his second win of the night with a time of 4:38, and was followed by Troyer who posted a third place time of 4:44.82 and Brooks who finished fourth with a time of 4:45.48.
The closest race of the night was the 100 freestyle, where Lichinsky won the event with a time of 45.62. This put him one one-hundredth of a second ahead of Lindenwood's Patryk Winiatowski. Sophomores Leo Gandaria-Hernandez and Arthur Souza finished third and fourth with times of 46.49 and 46.55.
The only events the Bearcats did not win were the 200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. In the 200 freestyle, Gandaria-Hernandez was out-touched by two tenths of a second and finished with a second place time of 1:40.92. In the 100 breaststroke, Lindenwood took first and second, going 55.33 and 55.83, while McKendree's Pinheiro finished third with a time of 56.19. Freshman Noah Tague finished fifth with a 58.66.
The night ended with Mckendree finishing one two in the 200 freestyle relay. The 'A' relay posted a time of 1:21.85 and the 'B' relay finished with a time of 1:24.49.
The Bearcats will be back in the pool on Jan. 14 against No.7 WashU.
