McKendree women's swimming and diving fell to the Washington University in St. Louis Bears with a final score of 174-122.

The Bearcats won six out of 16 events as four out of the five were won by freshmen in addition to tallying 11 second-place finishes and three third-place finishes on the day.

Freshman Ana Cecilia Carvalho dominated the distance events, winning both the 1000 freestyle (10:37.41) and the 500 freestyle (5:07.75). Carvalho was the lone competitor for McKendree in the 200 butterfly, posting a second-place finish with a time of 2:08.59. 

The 100 breaststroke featured sophomore Sarah Gormley finishing first with a time of 1:07.51, freshman Rylee Sitton following with a second place time of 1:08.78, and sophomore Presley Heitzmann touching fifth in 1:09.97.

The Bearcats also finished first and second in the 100 butterfly with freshmen McKenzie Fazio and Keianna Moss finishing with times of 1:00.08 and 1:00.47 respectively.

Finishing second in two events on the day was freshman Jocelyn Zgola who tabbed a 1:56.95 in the 200 freestyle and a 5:13.09 in the 500 freestyle. Junior Alexis Kachkin also snagged two second places on the day in the 50 freestyle (25.05) and the 100 freestyle (56.32). 

In 1-meter and 3-meter diving, all three McKendree divers hit 11-dive qualifying scores for the NCAA National meet in March as junior Regan Gubera took first in 1-meter diving with a score of 454.80 and second in 3-meter diving with a score of 414.00. Freshman Taylor Siebert recorded 386.30 on the 3-meter board for second place and 411.80 on the 1-meter board for third place while senior Andrea Menard Cordoba posted a 377.15 on 3-meter and 403.95 on 1-meter for fourth place in both events. 

The total combined men's and women's score was 307-285 in favor of the Bearcats. Next up, McKendree will celebrate its Senior Day, hosting University of Missouri-St. Louis on Jan. 20 at 1:30 p.m.
