O'FALLON, Ill. - McKendree University women's swimming and diving gave a strong performance at its first home swim meet of the season against Saint Louis University and Drury University. The Bearcats took the win over the Billikens 209.5-105.5 but fell just short of a victory over the Panthers, 164-151.  

McKendree won eight of the nineteen events in the meet. Sophomore Ana Cecilia Carvalho took first in both the 1000 and 500 freestyle events, while fellow sophomore Gabriela Novais Lima snagged two individual wins of her own in the 50 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke. Sophomore Jocelyn Zgola secured a win in a quite competitive 200 freestyle race in addition to a victory from freshman Helena Kurtz in the 100 backstroke. McKendree teams won both the 200 freestyle relay and the 200 medley relay; the 200 freestyle relay featured Novais Lima, junior Karley Sonnenberg, senior Alexis Kachkin, and Zgola while the winning 200 medley relay team was comprised of Kachkin, Novais Lima, Kurtz, and Zgola. 

Coming up next, the Bearcats will travel to the University of Indianapolis on Friday, Oct. 27.
