Destiny Rodriguez each paced the Bearcats. McKendree totaled seven placers in the two-day tournament with all divisions and levels of collegiate wrestling programs competing at the MoVal tournament.
116 CLASS | Salyna Shotwell, 2nd
Shotwell, in her first season of competition for the Bearcats, collected four-straight falls on her way to the first-place match, going 4-1 on the day. The redshirt sophomore pinned Ottawa's Daityn Webb in under a minute (0:49) before taking down Baker's Abigail Halstead at the 2:17 mark via fall. Shotwell then defeated SOU's Fernanda Lopez and Simon Fraser's Maddie Mackenzie (1:28) by pinfall. Shotwell dropped the first place match by decision to Iowa's Brianna Gonzalez.
116 CLASS | Payton Stroud, 3rd
Stroud, a multi-time All-American for McKendree, earned three technical falls and one pin heading into the semifinal match, going 10-0 TF against Aaliyah Bueno (Baker), Ruby ScarBorough (Avila), and Isabell Ortiz (Unattached-Kan.). She then went into the semifinals with a fall in less than 60 seconds over SOU's Kaylee Annis (0:57). Stroud fell in the semis to Gonzalez, but bounced back with a tech fall against Texas Wesleyan's Camille Fournier (11-0) and then pinned Oklahoma City's Avery Ashley (2:24).
130 CLASS | Jennifer Soto, 3rd
Soto grabbed two tech falls and a pin in the first three rounds of the weekend, topping SFU's Marquesis Haintz (10-0), Iowa's Alexandra Baudhuin (2:11), and Central Methodist's Nonnie Justice (11-0). Soto fell to Devin Patton (William Penn) in the quarterfinals but rattled-off four-straight wins to take third. She went for a tech against teammate
Nichole Moore (10-0), a 4-2 decision against Piper Cadden (Unattached-Kan.), a 10-0 tech over Joanna Vanderwood (William Penn), and then grabbed a decision over Bella Williams (Unattached-Okla.), 4-2.
136 CLASS | Alex Szkotnicki, 3rd
The freshman tallied three-straight falls to open the tournament, pinning Mornside's Elizabeth Rubio (0:46), Texas Wesleyan's Jalynn Patino (0:51), and Grand View's Laura Kipnusu (1:12). Szkotnicki then won by decision against Janiah Jones (Unattached-Mo.) in the quarters but fell to Esther Han (Iowa) in the semis via tech. The freshman tore through her final two matches with a pinfall against Vanguard's Piper Hall (1:01) and thenanother tech against Jones (Unattached-Mo.).
155 CLASS | Destiny Rodriguez, 3rd
Rodriguez went 6-1 enroute to her third-place finish, firing-off two tech falls to open the outing, beating Campbellsville's Sierra Chavez (10-0) and Grand View's Leilani Rodriguez (10-0). The freshman fell narrowly via decision to SOU's Caitlyn Davis but ripped apart her remaining competitors with two pins and two techs. She tallied pins over Oklahoma City's Presley Givens (0:26) and Texas Womens' Sheanareial Miller (0:58). Rodriguez finished the weekend with the technical superiority wins against Josselinne Campos (Unattached-Ky.) and SFU's Paige Maher (10-0).
