INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - McKendree University women's swimming clinched 11th place in the 800 freestyle relay to being the NCAA Division II National Championships in Indianapolis, Ind. The women's team was the first to qualify for the 800 freestyle relay in school history.
McKendree's team consisted of sophomore Sarah Gormley, redshirt freshman McKenzie Fazio, and freshmen Ana Cecelia Carvalho and Jocelyn Zgola. Collectively, the Bearcats posted a time of 7:25.23. The 11th place finish marked the highest placing of any McKendree women's relay at the national meet.
Junior diver Regan Gubera qualified for the national prelims on Tuesday morning in both 1-meter and 3-meter diving. Gubera placed third in 1-meter diving with a score of 255.70 and ninth in 3-meter diving with a score of 256.75. Gubera is a repeat qualifier as she finished fifth and received All-American honors in the 2021-22 national championships.
The NCAA national championships continue today with the 1,000 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle, 1 meter diving finals and the 200 medley relay.
