LEBANON, Ill. | Leemon Field - McKendree University women's soccer (10-3-1, 6-3-1 GLVC) bounced back on Friday night with a 2-0 shutout of Illinois-Springfield. The Bearcats had two unassisted scores with senior forward
Anna Stiffler and senior forward
Lena Higgins each tallying a goal. McKendree returns to action on October 25 and 27 with road battles at Lewis and Indianapolis.
McKendree jumped into the lead just four minutes into the game with a goal by senior forward
Anna Stiffler, her 51st career score and ninth of the campaign. Stiffler's shot was one of six in the first half for the Bearcats with the home squad holding a 1-0 advantage going into the intermission period.
The Bearcats pushed harder on offense and held stronger on defense in the second half with just three UIS shots being fired while they sent 10. McKendree added its insurance score in the 60th minute with senior forward
Lena Higgins firing her eighth of the season and putting the advantage up to two goals.
McKendree held strong to keep the Prairie Stars off the scoreboard with junior goalkeeper
Maicy Mueller collecting five saves in the game.
