SMITHVILLE, Mo. – The women's golf team went west for the their second tournament of the fall season to the Kansas City Cup, hosted by William Jewell College on September 23rd and 24th. The event was scheduled for 36 holes the first day and 18 on the second day. The second round on Monday, was suspended at 7:00 p.m. due to darkness with the majority of the field having 3 to 4 holes left to play on Tuesday morning.
For the second consecutive, the Bearcats won the team title by shooting a three-day total of 933 (313-315-305). They defeated conference foe, Drury University by seven shots, despite entering the final round trailing by six.
McKendree also defended its individual title as sophomore Chiara Bortolotti won the event by shooting a 224 (75-76-73). Freshman Alba Camps Pascual (77-80-76) and Wartisara Rungrojanaluk (76-77-80) tied for 7th each with a 233. Sophomore Reagan Martin tied for 20th with a 243 (85-86-76). Junior Sarah Capel was the final member of the team portion for the Bearcats with a 262 (87-84-91) which tied her for 46th.
The Bearcats also had three golfers competing as individuals in the event, led by junior Audrey Cain who placed in 43rd with a 257 (90-85-82). Freshman Kiley Belobraydic finished in 49th with a 265 (90-87-88). Emeline Brockland rounded out the individuals for the Bearcats by shooting a 289 (100-92-97) to finish in 62nd.
