ALLENDALE, Mich. – The McKendree Men's Swim and Dive team finished fourth at the Grand Valley State University (GVSU) Invite this past weekend.
Sophomore Vova Gavrysh had a highlight weekend in Allendale, winning three events for the Bearcats. He captured his first win of the meet in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:48.09. Gavrysh's next win came in the 200-yard freestyle stopping the clock at 1:36.43, beating the next closest competitor by two seconds. His third win came in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing with 1:48.18.
Gavrysh also joined Tyson Upton, Joey Ovanic and Phineas Theall to get fourth in the 200-yard freestyle relay, combining for a time of 1:23.69.
Jakub Rynkiewicz grabbed a second-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:27.21. Caden Brooks secured a top five finish in the 400-yard individual medley finishing with a time of 4:09.50, getting fourth in the event. Upton got an individual top five finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 45.98.
Gavrysh, Upton, Brooks and Theall combined to get third in the 400-yard freestyle finishing with a time of 3:02.62.
Luke Ashbury, David Hammond, Carson Olson, and Noah Brereton all earned top 10 finishes at the GVSU Invite.
Next, McKendree will be back home for a head-to-head meeting with Saint Louis University on October 24th and 25th at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex.
