Flayter Picks Up Gold Medal at NORCECA Final Six

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Men's volleyball's junior setter Nate Flayter added gold medalist to his resume this past Sunday, Oct. 12th, as he competed in the NORCECA Final Six tournament with team USA. The U.S. team finished with a 6-1 recorded, going undefeated in the tournament after falling to Mexico in their first match.

In their loss against Mexico, the U.S. team came out with an early two set lead. Mexico came fighting their way back taking the next three sets straight to come out victorious on Oct. 6th. The U.S. team quickly bounced back with a four-set win over Canada on Oct. 7th. In this match, Flayter scored a total of 10 points off two kills, one block and a match high of seven aces.

In their second straight win, the U.S. team defeated the Dominican Republic in four sets on Oct. 8th, followed by a three-set sweep against Suriname on Oct. 9th. This improved their record to 3-1.

Competing in their 5th match of the tournament, the U.S. team took down the undefeated Puerto Rico team on Oct. 10th in five sets. Flayter notched three kills and two blocks. The U.S. team avenged their one loss of the tournament against Mexico on Oct.11th in the semifinals to advance to the gold medal match.

In the gold medal match on Oct. 12th, the U.S. team was set to rematch Puerto Rico. The U.S. came out on top with a three-set sweep. Flayter contributed two kills and two blocks in the U.S.' demanding victory over Puerto Rico.
