COLUMBIA, Mo. – McKendree Men's Swimmer Vova Gavrysh now claims the second fastest time in division two history after swimming a 1:32.73 in the 200-yard freestyle event at the Mizzou Invitational this past weekend.
This time is now the fastest time in the event in division two, and number nine in all divisions one through three this season. He also went on to win that event on Thursday against division one competition.
Jakub Rynkiewicz also claimed a win in the preliminary rounds of the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:24.59 and fifth in the finals with a time of 4:26.37. Rynkiewicz also claimed a sixth-place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle finishing with a time of 15:28.91.
The group of Gavrysh, Daniel De Oliveria, Phin Theall and Tyson Upton swam 1:19.32 in the 200-freestyle relay to capture a fifth-place finish. Gavrysh and Upton paired up with Joey Ovanivc and Atticus Sternke in the 400-yard medley relay swimming 3:14.88.
Caden Brooks saw two top 10 finishes, an eighth-place finish in the 400-yard IM with a 3:55.36 and a 10th place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a 48.77.
The relay team Gavrysh, Upton, Brooks and Luke Asbury qualified for the NCAA National meet in the 800-yard freestyle with a second-place finish with a time of 6:28.51.
Overall, the team had 29 top 15 finishes, 27 NCAA B-cut performances, five NCAA A-cut performances, and three school records broken at the Mizzou Aquatic Center. With the teams performance they ended with 983.5 points getting fourth out of six teams.
Next, the team will be back home on January 10th at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex for a dual meet against WashU.
