LEBANON, Ill. — McKendree University men's basketball and Head Coach George Suggs has announced the signing of DeAaron Watkins from the 2026 class.
Watkins come in from Daviess County High school and from Owensboro, Kentucky as he was also recently a part of the Kentucky Basketball Club (KBC) PRO16 travel team. Standing at 6-foot-8, he averaged 16.7 points and 10.3 rebounds per game in his senior season with Daviess County and reached the 1,000 point and 500 board milestones in his tenure with the Panthers.
The Kentucky native's size and shooting ability stood out in his young career thus far, but also shown flashes of dominating inside, finishing above the rim, and altering almost every shot the opposition brings. More importantly, he brings a tendency of unselfishness to his playstyle on both ends of the floor.
"DeAaron Watkins is a terrific young man who has earned every opportunity coming his way," said Daviess County Head Coach Neil Hayden. "He broke multiple rebounding records at Daviess County High School, finished 28th in the state in rebounds, averaged 16 points per game, and was a major reason we captured the 3rd Region Championship. We are incredibly proud of DeAaron and excited to see him continue his journey with McKendree University men's basketball."
An Honor Roll student in the classroom, Watkins believed that McKendree University was the best fit for him and his growth both on and off the court. He plans to major in Business once he steps foot on campus.
FROM THE VOICE OF HEAD COACH GEORGE SUGGS:
"DeAaron is a perfect fit for our program. On the court, he checks every single box for what we are looking for. He is a great teammate, plays hard, and has all the potential in the world. Off the court, he shows tremendous character, work ethic, and he comes from a great family. We are excited to get him to Lebanon next Fall."
