ST. CHARLES, Mo. | Hyland Arena - No.3 McKendree University women's wrestling dominated its way to a NCWWC Region VI championship on Sunday afternoon, totaling eight individuals titles while 14 Bearcats qualified for the upcoming National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships on March 7-8. With his squad's performance this season, head coach Alexio Garcia earned the region's Coach of the Year honors for the first time in his tenure with the Bearcat. McKendree's individual champions spanned the weight classes with 103 Gabriele Tedesco, 124 Shelby Moore, 131 Alex Szkotnicki, 138 Haylie Jaffe, 145 Savannah Gomez, 160 Kaylynn Albrecht, 180 Lydia Krauss, and 207 Tristan Kelly all collecting Region VI belts. The Bearcats will be back in action on March 7-8 at the NCWWC national championships in Coralville, Iowa at Xtreme Arena with their 14 qualifiers battling for supremacy in their respective weight classes.
