INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. | Great Lakes Valley Conference - McKendree University women's soccer junior goalkeeper
Peyton Baker led her team to a pair of strong road victories over the weekend with two shutouts over SBU and Drury, earning her the GLVC's Defensive Player of the Week honor. The junior collects her first GLVC POTW award with the selection while becoming the Bearcat to receive the defensive award since 2022. Baker and McKendree , who boast an unbeaten record yet in 2025 (4-0-4, 4-0-1 GLVC) get back on their home pitch, Leemon Field, on October 3 and 5 against Missouri S&T and Lincoln (MO).
Baker, who has seen split time over her first two seasons as a Bearcat, has played full time in goal this fall as she has taken over the starting role with an .864 save percentage and a .75 goals against average. Over the road weekend, she displayed why as the junior keeper collected 12 saves over two games while facing 26 shots from her adversaries. The Friday game saw Baker grab three saves while getting a second consecutive shutout on the year, with the Bearcats defeating SBU, 2-0. Sunday's outing was a battle between two top GLVC foes, with Baker and McKendree coming out on top for a third-straight shutout, 2-0. In the win over Drury, she amassed nine saves to keep the Panthers out of contention while also saving a penalty kick attempt late in the first half of action. Baker added her fifth and six career shutouts with the weekend sweep.
