O'FALLON, Ill. – McKendree Women's Swim and Dive teams efforts fell short in the dual meet against WashU with a final score of 109-179 on Saturday at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex.
However, the team found themselves on the podium for most of the day, finishing with 13 total podium finishes and nine of them being first place finishes.
The Bearcats started out by winning the first two events, with Helena Kurtz, Beatriz Souza, Chiara Fuerst and Tumi Macdonell winning the 200-yard medley relay and Jocelyn Zgola taking the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:42.10.
Kurtz collected two individual wins in the 100-yard backstroke and butterfly with times of 58.85 and 56.95 respectively. Souza also took home wins in both the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke, with times of 1:05.10 and 2:25.98.
Rylee Sitton also earned a third-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:30.13.
Macdonell had two second place finishes in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle with 24.66 and 53.55, respectively. Zgola finished right behind her in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.70.
Luiza Dias and Sarah Gormley picked up wins as well in the 500-yard freestyle and 200-yard individual medley. Dias finished with a time of 5:06.60 and Gormley with a 2:14.35 in their respective events.
The group of Macdonell, Kurtz, Dias and Zgola finished the day with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay, having a time of 1:37.87.
Next, the team will be traveling for a dual meet against Southern Illinois University on January 16th at 2:00 PM at Shea Natatorium.
