O'FALLON, Ill. – McKendree Women's Swim and Dive pulled out the win in the final dual meet in the regular season against UMSL Friday afternoon at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex.
McKendree started out the day in comfortable fashion as the group Helena Kurtz, Beatriz Souza, Chiara Fuerst and Tumi Macdonell capture the win in the 200-yard medley relay with a three second cushion. They swam a combined time of 1:46.76.
In the first two individual events, Elena Argabright and Luiza Dias both earned a second-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle. Argabright finished with 11:28.26 and Dias with a 1:51.54 in their respective events.
Kurtz got her first individual win for the Bearcats in the 100-yard backstroke, swimming 59.19 in the event. Keianna Moss also saw the podium coming in third with a 1:05.11. Kurtz then went on to get another win in the 100-yard butterfly.
In the 100-yard breaststroke Souza and Fuerst swept the top two spots finishing with times of 1:04.81 and 1:04.96 respectively.
Macdonell and Sarah Gormley added to the podium totals in the 50-yard freestyle. Macdonell collected the top spot in the event finishing with a 24.74; Gormley came in third in third swimming 25.11 in the event. The duo also took the top two spots in the 100-yard freestyle.
Souza earned another individual win in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing with a time of 2:19.68. Fuerst followed her in third with a time of 2:27.29. Dias collected her first win in the 500-yard freestyle finishing with 5:06.42.
Jocelyn Zgola got a win for McKendree in the 200-yard individual medley, coming in with 2:10.46 on the clock.
The collection of Macdonell, Kurtz, Dias and Zgola ended the day with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay combing for a 3:34.25.
The score ended with the Bearcats on top 127-91 over UMSL.
Next, the team prepares for the GLVC Championships in Evansville, Indiana at the Deaconess Aquatic Center, February 10th through the 14th.
