EVANSVILLE, Ind. – McKendree Men's Swim and Dive saw Miguel Carvalhosa and Vova Gavrysh claim All-American Honors in the 1000-yard freestyle and 200-yard Individual Medley on the second day of NCAA Division II Nationals Wednesday night.
The first event of the day was the 200-yard individual medley Vova Gavrysh finished with a new school record time of 1:44.96 in the preliminary round to qualify him as the third seed going into the finals. In the finals, he would proceed to break his own record with a 1:44.32 to finish second place and earn a spot as an All-American. Also competing in the event, Tyler Bardak would finish in 11th place with a 1:45.85. Caden Brooks finished right outside the top 20 at 21st with a time of 1:47.36.
Phineas Theall and Daniel De Oliveira competed in the 50-yard freestyle where they finished 31st and 34th with times of 20.35 and 20.42 respectively.
The next event was the 1000-yard freestyle, Miguel Carvalhosa would earn an All-American spot in the finals finishing seventh with a time of 9:03.33. Also in the event, Jakub Rynkiewicz finished with a time of 9:10.15 to finish 17th in the nation.
Finishing the day out, the group of Joey Ovanic, Nojus Bertulis, De Oliveira and Tyson Upton finished seventh with a time of 1:25.59.
They will be heading back to the Deaconess Aquatic Center for the third day of competition. The events on Thursday include the 100-yard butterfly, 4000-yard individual medley and 200-yard freestyle.
