Bearcat Women's Golf places 3rd at Flyers Spring Invite

Camps Pascual, Bortolotti del Reino both Top 10 amid weather-crazed event

Bolingbrook, IL - McKendree University's Women's Golf team spent Monday and Tuesday up in Bolingbrook at Bolingbrook Golf Club, playing in the Lewis Flyers' Flyers Spring Invitational. While the first round may have been normal, Mother Nature reigned supreme the rest of the way, as the back half of the second round was washed out, and thus, a planned third round would never happen. Regardless, the Bearcats would play quality golf despite the conditions, with two golfers inside the individual Top 10 (Alba Camps Pascual - T-2nd, Chiara Bortolotti del Reino - T-8th), and two others within the top 25 (Reagan Martin - 20th, Waritsara Rungrojanaluk - 21st).

The first round saw the Bearcats at +24, paced by a +1 round from Camps Pascual, who played +2 on the front nine with a birdie on the par-five 5th, before a three-birdie back nine saw her finish at the +1 round total. Bortolotti del Reino, Martin, and Rungrojanaluk were all within two strokes of each other for the day. Rungrojanaluk birdied the par-five 5th like Camps Pascual did, with the trio combining for five holes of birdie or better on the back nine. McKendree's first-round efforts were perhaps led by Martin on the 15th hole's island green. Wind gusts were estimated at around 15 miles per hour, and the 127-yard hole was playing around 115. Selecting a pitching wedge, Martin got it on one hop, a brief roll, and it would drop in for a hole-in-one. The ace is the third-ever for Martin, and her first in competition. Cale Albertina played to a +23 for the first round, paring the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 15th holes.

Elements would start to become an issue for all parties in the second round, as McKendree was only able to tally two birdies as a team on Bolingbrook Golf Club's back nine. Bortolotti del Reino birdied the 319-yard par-four 14th, while Camps Pascual birdied the aforementioned 15th hole.

Reminiscent of a strong majority of the fall season, UIS's Elaine Grant (1st), Maryville's Fernanda Diaz-Pizarro (T-2nd), and Camps Pascual (T-2nd) made up the individual top three yet again, as that trio showcased their consistency among the best golfers the GLVC has to offer.

Perhaps to be expected with the way the weather was in Bolingbrook, no golfer among the entire women's leaderboard would play an under-par round, with Camps Pascual's +1 in round one being the closest anyone got on the round of a full 18 holes.
