(LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 26)--
The McKendree University volleyball team will open a five-match home stand with a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference matches over the weekend. The Bearcats will play host to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside on Friday at 7 p.m. before taking on Lewis University Saturday at 3 p.m.

McKendree enters the weekend with four wins in its last five matches. McKendree took two of three contests in the GLVC/GLIAC Crossover Challenge two weeks ago, then notched a pair of victories last weekend in GLVC cross-divisional play. The Bearcats rallied from a two-set deficit at the University of Illinois Springfield before rolling to a sweep at Quincy University.

Thanks to its recent solid play, McKendree sits at 11-13 overall and 5-6 in the GLVC East Division. This weekend, the Bearcats will be looking to avenge a pair of losses early in the season. McKendree was swept in three close sets at Lewis on Sept. 28 before falling in four sets a day later at Wisconsin-Parkside. Lewis currently sits in second place in the GLVC East Division standings at 9-2, while the Flyers are 17-8 overall. Wisconsin-Parkside enters the weekend with a 17-6 mark on the year, while the Rangers are 6-5 in conference play. Lewis will have a match at Bellarmine University on Friday night before traveling to Lebanon.

Junior Maureen Nesbit (Belleville, IL/Althoff Catholic) and freshman Lauren Apetz (Glenwood, FL/DeLand) continue to lead the McKendree offensive attack as they rank 1-2 in kills. Nesbit paces the squad with 281 kills, while Apetz is close behind with 271. Nesbit also leads the Bearcats with 26 service aces, and Apetz is tops on the squad with 67 blocks. Freshman Rachel Nelson (Papillion, NE/Papillion-LaVista South) has added 65 blocks on the year, including a team-best 21 solos.

Junior Abby Hanger (Belleville, IL/Belleville West) is closing in on 1,000 assists for the season. She enters the weekend with 959 sets, and needs just 41 to become the third player in program history with at least 1,000 assists for a year.
