Box Score (LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 27)—The McKendree University volleyball team saw its three-match win streak come to an end Saturday afternoon as visiting Lewis University posted a three-set sweep of the Bearcats. The Flyers won by scores of 25-23, 25-18 and 25-21.
With the loss, McKendree slips to 12-14 overall and 6-7 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Bearcats will continue their home stand Tuesday when Bellarmine University comes to town for another GLVC contest. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at the Harry M. Statham Sports Center.

Maureen Nesbit (Belleville, IL/Althoff Catholic) and freshman middle hitter
Lauren Apetz (Glenwood, FL/DeLand) each had nine kills to pace McKendree offensively. Freshman outside hitter
Hannah Wessel (Waterloo, IL/Gibault Catholic) chipped in with eight kills. Junior setter
Abby Hanger (Belleville, IL/Belleville West) registered 31 assists, while junior libero
Maddie Kelly (Lake Saint Louis, MO/Timberland) notched a match-high 29 digs in the effort for the Bearcats.
In the first set, McKendree played from behind for most of the contest but managed to grab a lead in the later stages. Wessel had three kills during an 8-2 spurt that pushed the Bearcats out to a 23-22 lead. However, Lewis rallied to win the final three points and take the set by two points.
From that point, Lewis trailed just once over the final two sets, which came at 4-3 in the second set when Apetz registered a kill. Carly Perschnick pace the Flyers (18-9, 10-3 GLVC) with a match-high 15 kills, while Leigh Barea handed out 37 assists in the contest. Lewis swept the season series from McKendree as the Flyers won the first meeting 3-0 back on Sept. 28 in Romeoville, Ill.
