(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 2)--
The McKendree University volleyball team is prepared to host its final two home matches of the 2012 season this weekend at the Harry M. Statham Sports Center. The Bearcats will take on Kentucky Wesleyan College Friday night at 7 p.m. before entertaining the University of Southern Indiana Saturday at 3 p.m.

Winners in six of their last eight matches, the Bearcats enter the weekend with a 13-14 overall record and a 7-7 mark in the Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division. McKendree is coming off an impressive four-set win Tuesday at home against Bellarmine University. Lauren Apetz (Glenwood, FL/DeLand) put down 19 kills and had seven blocks, while Maureen Nesbit (Belleville, IL/Althoff Catholic) added 14 kills and 17 digs. The win enabled McKendree to gain a split of the season series with the Knights and helped the Bearcats move into fifth place in the GLVC East standings.

McKendree has a chance to climb above the .500 mark for the first time in league play with a victory on Friday night against Kentucky Wesleyan. The Panthers come to town with a 10-19 season record and 3-11 mark in the conference. The Bearcats defeated Kentucky Wesleyan back on Sept. 15 in Owensboro, Ky., three sets to two.

Southern Indiana begins the weekend with a 14-13 record on the year and a 10-4 GLVC East Division slate. The Eagles will play at Bellarmine University Friday night before making the trip to Lebanon. McKendree was defeated in three sets by Southern Indiana in the Bearcats' GLVC debut back on Sept. 14 in Evansville, Ind.

Prior to Saturday's match with Southern Indiana, the McKendree volleyball program will honor defensive specialist Laura Payne (Rockville, IN/Rockville) on Senior Day. A two-year member of the Bearcat squad, Payne is the lone senior on the 2012 roster.
