Box Score (OWENSBORO, Ky., Sept. 15)- The McKendree University volleyball team rallied from a two-set deficit on Saturday to earn its first Great Lakes Valley Conference win in five sets at Kentucky Wesleyan College.
The Bearcats improved to 5-5 overall (1-1 GLVC) with the victory and will travel to Louisville, Ky. on Tuesday, Sep. 18 to face Bellarmine University at 7 p.m. ET.
Junior middle hitter Mel Duncan led McKendree with 16 kills, while junior outside hitter
Maureen Nesbit (Belleville, IL/Althoff Catholic) and freshman outside hitter
Hannah Wessel (Waterloo, IL/Gibault Catholic) each posted double-digit kills with 15 and 13, respectively. Junior libero
Maddie Kelly (Lake Saint Louis, MO/Timberland) and Nesbit each had 18 digs, while junior setter
Abby Hanger (Belleville, IL/Belleville West) had 16 digs and led the team with 41 assists. The victory was also first-year head coach
Lisa Orlet's first conference victory at McKendree.
After dropping the first two sets, 25-22 and 25-18, McKendree rallied to take the third set, 25-19, and tied the match up 2-2 after winning the fourth set, 25-21.
The Bearcats edged the Panthers in the fifth set, 18-16, to earn the win.
