GLVC PERFORMANCE LIST
(LEBANON, Ill., Dec. 14) – The McKendree University track and field program traveled to Indianapolis, IN on Saturday to compete in at the University of Indianapolis Winter Break Meet. The Bearcats traveled a partial roster competing in the 200, 400, and 1000-meter dash and the triple jump in the women's events, while the men's team participated in the 200, 400, and 800-meter races.
On the men's side freshman Demontez McCray (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon) hit a provisional standard with his time of 22.16 in the 200-meter. McCray took home a second place finish, and his time is currently tied for the fourth fastest in the NCAA this season. The freshman's time was also fifth on the McKendree all-time list.McCray also tabbed a fourth place finish in the 400-meter race with a time of 51.72, while fellow freshman Tyler Johnson (South Holland, IL/St. Rita) and Tyree Allen (Country Club Hills, IL/Hillcrest) posted times of 51.82 and 51.84 coming in right behind McCray in fifth and sixth place.Johnson also had a strong showing in the 800-meter event finishing fourth with a time of 2:02.54. Freshman Andrew Gardewine (Effingham, IL/Effingham) came in less than a second behind Johnson for fifth place with a time of 2:03.43.The women were led by senior
Irma Maciukaite (Pasvalys, Lithuania/Petro Vileisio Gymnasiumq), who was the top performer for McKendree in both the 200 and 400-meter races, finishing tied for third in the 400-meter with a time of 59.65, which is the second fastest time in the Great Lakes Valley Conference this season.
Freshman
Quincy McSweeney (Eureka, IL/Eureka) took home a first place finish in the 1000-meter race, finishing at the 3:07.57 mark. McSweeney followed up her impressive debut a week ago where she posted a personal best time of 2:16.54 in the 800-meter run, which was the third fastest time in the nation, by putting in the second fastest time in school history in the 1000-meter event.
Sophomore
Ciara Jones (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon) also had a record day posting a personal best in the triple jump with a distance of 10.98-meters. The distance was good enough for a second place finish.
The Bearcats will be off for just over a month, returning to action after the holiday break on Jan. 23 at the John Craft Invitational in Charleston, IL.
