INDIANAPOLIS SEASON STATISTICS

(LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 7)--
The McKendree University football team will close out a two-game road trip on Saturday with a visit to the University of Indianapolis. The Bearcats and Greyhounds will tangle under the lights at Key Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind., with kickoff set for 6 p.m. ET (5 p.m. CT). The game will be broadcast live on the Bearcat Sports Network (www.glvcsn.com/mckendree) with the pre-game show set to begin 15 minutes prior to kickoff.

McKendree will be looking to bounce back from its first Great Lakes Valley Conference loss of the season, a 35-7 setback last Saturday at Southwest Baptist University. It was the Bearcats' first loss in three meetings against Southwest Baptist, which remained undefeated on the year at 5-0. McKendree, which is now 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the GLVC, had a trio of players who etched their names into the Bearcats' record books based on their performances last week in Bolivar, Mo.

Senior defensive end Lucky Baar (Chicago, IL/Morgan Park) had a sack on the first series of the contest, which made him the Bearcats' career leader in quarterback sacks. Baar now has 39 1/2 sacks in his McKendree playing days to surpass the former mark of 38 sacks set by Oku Satcher, who played for the Bearcats from 1999-2001. Senior linebacker A.J. Wentland (Machesney Park, IL/Harlem) tied his own McKendree program mark for tackles in a contest as he registered 22 stops at Southwest Baptist. Wentland first reached the 22-tackle mark during the Bearcats' 2015 regular-season opener at West Liberty University.

On offense, junior running back Shayeen Edwards (East St. Louis, IL/Cahokia) rushed for a season-high 100 yards in the contest. That pushed his three-year total to 1,061 rushing yards, making Edwards the 20th player since McKendree revived its football progarm in 1996 to surpass 1,000 career yards on the ground.

Indianapolis will be in search of its first GLVC victory of the season on Saturday. The Greyhounds, who are the four-time defending GLVC champions, have opened the 2016 season with a 1-4 overall record and an 0-2 mark in league play. UIndy dropped a heartbreaker last Saturday at Truman State University, 24-17. Trailing by seven points late in the contest, the Greyhounds drove down to the Bulldogs' six-yard line but could not produce the game-tying points before time expired. This is the first time since the GLVC began play in 2012 that Indianapolis has started conference play with two consecutive losses.

Saturday's game will mark the fifth meeting on the gridiron between the Bearcats and Greyhounds. Indianapolis has won all four previous meetings, including last season's 34-24 triumph that was not decided until the final minute of play.

After returning home from Indianapolis, McKendree will play its next two games at home, beginning with next Saturday's Homecoming contest against Saint Joseph's College.

McKENDREE -- LAST TIME OUT
The Bearcats were defeated in Great Lakes Valley Conference play last Saturday at Southwest Baptist University, 35-7. The hosts jumped out to a 28-0 lead early in the third quarter and never looked back to hand McKendree its first conference loss of the season. A.J. Wentland (Machesney Park, IL/Harlem) matched a program record by posting 22 tackles at Southwest Baptist. Wentland first set the Bearcats' tackles record in the 2015 season opener at West Liberty University. Lucky Baar (Chicago, IL/Morgan Park) became the career sack leader at McKendree with his takedown of SBU quarterback T.J. Edwards on the opening series. Baar now has 39 1/2 career sacks to pass the mark previously established by Oku Satcher from 1999-2001. Shayeen Edwards (East St. Louis, IL/Cahokia) also put his name in the Bearcats' record book with his 100-yard performance in the contest. Edwards became the 20th player since McKendree revived its football program in 1996 to rush for 1,000 career yards. Edwards now has 1,061 yards on the ground in three seasons with the Bearcats. As a team, McKendree -- which entered the contest as the NCAA Division II leader in sacks with 28 -- added five more quarterback sacks on the day.

INDIANAPOLIS -- LAST TIME OUT
Despite a 434-327 edge in total offensive yards, the Greyhounds dropped a 24-17 decision last Saturday in GLVC play at Truman State University. The loss gives Indianapolis its first 0-2 start in the GLVC since the league first sponsored football in 2012. The Greyhounds faced a first-and-goal situation at the Bulldogs' six-yard line in the final minute of play, but could not produce the potential game-tying score in coming away with the hard-luck loss. Quarterback Jake Purichia completed 24-of-43 pass attempts for 311 yards with a pair of touchdowns for UIndy. Malik Higgins caught a game-high 11 passes for 187 yards and accounted for both TD receptions for the Greyhounds. Purichia led the Uindy ground game with 79 rushing yards on 16 attempts. Defensively, Derrick Bryant paced the Greyhounds with 17 tackles, while Rob Dury chipped in with 13 stops.

THE LAST MEETING -- McKENDREE vs. INDIANAPOLIS
On Oct. 10, 2015 at Leemon Field, McKendree and Indianapolis went toe-to-toe for more than 58 minutes before the visiting Greyhounds pulled away late for a 34-24 victory. UIndy's Brad Schickel booted a 36-yard field goal with 1:56 to play to give the Greyhounds a 27-24 lead. McKendree took the ensuing kickoff and looked to tie the game, but Jamie Placht stepped in front of an Isaac Fisher (Washington, IL/Washington) pass and raced 26 yards for the touchdown that sealed the win for the visitors. Fisher was 23-of-44 in the contest for 225 yards. He also ran for a career-high 138 yards on 17 carries with a pair of rushing scores for McKendree. Fisher posted rushing TDs of 19 and 60 yards against Indianapolis. Darius Crochrell (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) caught a team-high seven passes for 44 yards. On defense, A.J. Wentland (Machesney Park, IL/Harlem) registered a game-high 16 tackles to show the way for the Bearcats. Nate Powell (Chicago, IL/King College Prep), Jabaree Winston (Chicago, IL/Simeon), Lucky Baar (Chicago, IL/Morgan Park) and Brett Pearman (Granite City, IL/Granite City) each finished with seven stops.

BEARCAT TRACKS
BEARCATS vs. THE HOOSIER STATE:
McKendree has a record of 11-14 against teams from the state of Indiana since 1996. Excluding the 2006 season, the Bearcats have played an Indiana school each year since the program was revived for the 1996 campaign.

PLAYING AT WARP SPEED: McKendree set a new program record by running 97 offensive plays in the 28-14 win against William Jewell College. The Bearcats broke the previous mark of 93 plays, which came in a 2014 contest at Southwest Baptist University.

WENTLAND CONTINUES TO TACKLE THE BEARCATS' RECORD BOOK: A.J. Wentland (Machesney Park, IL/Harlem) matched his own McKendree program record for tackles in a game with 22 stops in the Bearcats' contest at Southwest Baptist University. Wentland first established the mark in the 2015 regular-season opener at West Liberty University. The 22 tackles enabled Wentland to add to his McKendree career mark for tackles, which now stands at 352.

RAISING THE BAAR: Lucky Baar (Chicago, IL/Morgan Park) leads NCAA Division II in sacks per game at 2.10. In addition, Baar has beciome the Bearcats' career record for quarterback sacks with 39 1/2. Oku Satcher held the previous mark with 38 sacks during his McKendree career from 1999-2001.

SACK MASTERS: As a team, McKendree has registered 28 quarterback sacks in its first four games of the 2016 season. The Bearcats lead both the Great Lakes Valley Conference and NCAA Division II in the category, averaging 5.6 sacks per contest.

NO. 1 IS NO. 20 TO 1,000: With his 100-yard effort at Southwest Baptist University, Shayeen Edwards (East St. Louis, IL/Cahokia) became the 20th player since McKendree revived its football program in 1996 to rush for 1,000 career yards. Edwards enters the Indianapolis contest with 1,061 yards, which is currently 19th on the program's all-time list:
15) Jason Yelton -- 1,255 yards
16) Jason Jackson -- 1,241 yards
17) Anthony Roland -- 1,100 yards
18) Shayeen Edwards (East St. Louis, IL/Cahokia) -- 1,061 yards
19) Chris Montgomery -- 1,038 yards
20) Dan Simik -- 1,029 yards

PASSING GRADE: Brandon Wildman (Monticello, IL/Monticello) tossed a 28-yard scoring strike to Tyler Brewer (Arnold, MO/Fox) to account for the Bearcats' lone touchdown at Southwest Baptist University. That gives McKendree a touchdown pass in nine consecutive games, dating back to the Missouri S&T game in 2015.

PICK 'EM: McKendree has had six players record an interception so far in 2016. This is the fifth consecutive year that the Bearcats have had at least six players with one interception.

UNI-TRACKER: McKendree made history of sorts against Angelo State by wearing purple uniform pants for the first time in program history. The purple pants give the Bearcats multiple uniform combinations as they can also be worn with the new white road jerseys. We will track the McKendree football record in 2016 while wearing certain combinations.
**Graphite Jersey/Purple Pants: 1-0
**Graphite Jersey/Graphite Pants: 2-0
**White Jersey/Purple Pants: 0-1
**White Jersey/White Pants: 0-0
**White Jersey/Graphite Pants: 0-1

MANY HAPPY RETURNS: Derrick Curry (Glen Ellyn, IL/Montini Catholic) already has 22 punt returns through the Bearcats' first five games of 2016. That is the most in a season for a McKendree punt returner since Robby Mosher had 22 back in 2009. The Bearcats' single-season record is 42, which was set by Adam Clapp during the 2004 campaign.
21 AND OVER: McKendree sports a 120-24 record (.833) when scoring at least 21 points in a game.

RECORDS WATCH: A.J. Wentland (Machesney Park, IL/Harlem) (tackles) and Lucky Baar (Chicago, IL/Morgan Park) (quarterback sacks) have already eclipsed McKendree careers they were chasing entering the 2016 season. Three more McKendree players on the 2016 roster have a chance to become the Bearcats' career leader in at least one statistical category. Listed below are those players, with their current rank and the statistics needed to become the all-time leader in the respective categories:

LUCKY BAAR
• Tackles for Loss -- Second all-time with 56.5. Oku Satcher holds the Bearcats' career record with 59.

THIS DATE IN BEARCAT FOOTBALL HISTORY
Oct. 8, 2005

McKendree had its eight-game winning streak in Mid-States Football Association-Midwest League play snapped with a 21-14 loss at Saint Xavier University. The Bearcats took a 14-7 lead into the locker room thanks to second-quarter touchdown runs from Lamont Benn and Antonio Smith, but the Cougars responded with 14 points of their own in the third quarter to take the lead for good. Benn, who rushed for a game-high 105 yards on the day, became the 11th player since McKendree revived its football program in 1996 to reach the 1,000-yard mark in rushing. Deveon Moss (11) and Marcus Mann (10) each posted double-digits in tackles against Saint Xavier.

Oct. 8, 2011
The Bearcats were defeated on the road at Saint Ambrose University, 28-7. The host Fighting Bees scored a touchdown in every quarter to pull away for the victory. McKendree posted its only points of the day just before the end of the first half, when Kyle Rutledge caught a three-yard touchdown pass from Austin Fisher. On the day, Fisher completed 15 passes for 91 yards. Rutledge and Stephen Wallace each hauled in five passes for the Bearcats. Erik Fohne led a balanced ground attack for McKendree with 38 yards on just six carries. Brandon Nigro registered a game-high 10 tackles on defense in the effort.
