Men's Track And Field Tallies Fourth Place Finish In Saint Louis University Invitational

(LEBANON, Ill., April 11) –
 The McKendree University men's track and field team earned a fourth place finish at the Saint Louis University Invitational hosted by Saint Louis University this weekend. The meet played host to 13 universities competing in 20 scored events.

The Bearcats landed 14 top five finishes to pull in a team score of 90 points.

Freshman Demontez McCray (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon) took home the only first place finish of the day for McKendree in the 200-meter. McCray finished in 21.93 seconds. Sophomore Kevin Witcik (Machesney Park, IL/Harlem) placed fifth with a time of 22.49 seconds. Witcik also put in a third place finish in the 100-meter with a time of 10.98 seconds.

Junior Duane Cargill (Nassau, Bahamas/Liberty Christian Academy) finished in 49.98 in the 400-meter, good enough for fourth place, with McCray finishing just behind him in 50.00 seconds for fifth place.

In the 400-meter hurdles freshman Christian Neal (Bloomington, IL/Bloomington) tallied a second place finish with a time of 56.88 seconds, fellow freshman Tyler Johnson (South Holland, IL/St. Rita) placed fifth with a time of 57.34 seconds.

The McKendree relay teams finished third and fourth in the 4x400-meter relay. Johnson, Cargill, McCray, and freshman Tyree Allen (Country Club Hills, IL/Hillcrest) took home the third place finish with a time of 3:23.64, while Neal, and freshman Ryan Krause (Troy, IL/Triad) and Grant Riggs (Highland, IL/Highland), along with sophomore Alexis Palmer (Parkland, FL/Nova) finished 3:26.49.  

In the field sophomore Ryan Pearce (Villa Grove, IL/Villa Grove) netted three top five finishes starting in the shot put with a distance of 15.95-meters for a second place finish. Freshman Chase Hagene (Nashville, IL/Nashville) was right behind him with a distance of 14.12 for a third place finish. The pair also finished second and third in the discus with distances of 47.94 and 44.20-meters respectively. Pearce rounded out his top five finishes in the javelin placing fifth after a throw of 49.45 meters.

The Bearcats return to action Apr. 22 when they travel a partial squad to Gainesville, FL to compete in the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational hosted by the Gators from the University of Florida.
