(LEBANON, Ill., Sept. 22)—
The McKendree University women's volleyball team will embark on its first conference road trip of the season as the Bearcats compete in a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference matches starting Friday evening in Kansas City, MO against Rockhurst University at 7 p.m. McKendree will follow up with a Saturday afternoon showdown against William Jewell College in Liberty, MO at 3 p.m.

The Bearcats are coming off of a 3-0 week including victories in their first two GLVC matches, which boosted their overall record to 7-4 (2-0).

McKendree is led offensively by junior outside hitter Arela Williams (San Diego, CA/LaJolla Country Day) who ranks third in the GLVC in kills with a team high 135, averaging 3.55 per set. Williams has added 119 digs and 17 blocks for the Bearcats. Senior right side Allison Schneider (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh) is second on the squad with 113 kills to go with 81 digs. Senior middle hitter Sophie Fairman (Staunton, IL/Staunton) is third on the team in kills with 92 and leads the GLVC in hitting percentage, attacking at a .467 clip. Fairman is also tied with junior middle blocker Carissa Lorenz (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln-Way West) with a team high 38 blocks, which ranks third in the conference.  

Senior setter Aubry Dickmann (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) has doled out a team high 217 assists to pair with 62 digs. Sophomore setter Morgan Melchert (Mt. Vernon, IA/Mt. Vernon) has also seen significant court time with 182 kills and 63 digs. Junior right side Amanda Geiger (Tomball, TX/Concordia Lutheran) has put down 81 kills, 24 digs, and 30 blocks, while freshman outside hitter Kelly Voss (St. Rose, IL/Mater Dei ) has 29 kills and 36 digs. Senior libero Breanna Howe (Mt. Pulaski, IL/Mt. Pulaski) has stuck a team high 131 digs from the back row for the Bearcats.

ABOUT ROCKHURST UNIVERSITY

The Hawks enter the weekend winners of three straight with an overall record of 8-3 including a 2-0 mark in GLVC play. Rockhurst is paced by senior outside hitter Morgan Rietzke who leads the team in kills with 136 and ranks second on the squad with 152 digs. Senior outside hitter Mattie Gray is second in kills with 132 and third on the team in blocks with 26. Freshman outside hitter Alyssa Woodman rounds out the top three attackers for the Hawks with 106 kills 71 digs, and 12 blocks. Senior setter Lily Thornberg leads Rockhurst in assists with 358 for an average of 8.33 per set to go with 112 digs. Junior middle blocker Holli Hogge has tallied a team high 35 blocks and junior libero Anne Hellwege has posted a team high 226 digs which ranks second in the conference. The Hawks were victorious in their only meeting with the Bearcats a season ago after a 3-0 win on Sept. 26. Rockhurst has yet to share a common opponent with McKendree this season.

ABOUT WILLIAM JEWELL COLLEGE

The Cardinals are 7-5 on the season with a 1-1 showing in GLVC play. Sophomore middle hitter Paige Cunningham has led the charge offensively with 128 kills adding 24 digs and 28 blocks. Sophomore right side Stefanie Richterkessing and junior outside hitter Madeline Johnson have put down 78 and 77 kills respectively, with Richterkessing adding 113 digs and Johnson putting down 32 blocks. Junior setter Alix Weigel has dished out 251 assists for William Jewell to pair with 71 assists. Sophomore libero Olivia Tolberd and junior middle blocker Grace Miller have aided the Cardinals defensive efforts with as they lead the team in digs and blocks. Tolberd has stuck 204 digs from the back row, while Miller has totaled 36 blocks up front. McKendree came out ahead of the teams only meeting a season ago with a 3-0 sweep on Sept. 25. The Bearcats and Cardinals have yet to face a common opponent this season.
