(LEBANON, Ill., Jan. 24)--The McKendree University men's volleyball team will compete in a trio of matches this week starting Wednesday evening inside the Harry. M Statham Sports Center as the Bearcats host Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association foe Lindenwood University in their conference opener. McKendree will then hit the road for a pair of matches this weekend in West Virginia versus the University of Charleston and Alderson Broaddus University.
The Bearcats enter the week with a record of 2-6 overall although each of its six losses have come against teams ranked in the top 12 in the nation.
McKendree is led by senior opposite
Maalik Walker (Shorewood, IL/Minooka) averages a team high 3.62 kills per set. Walker has also tabbed 1.15 digs per set and 10 blocks for the Bearcats. Junior outside hitter
Nolan Rueter (Burlington, WI/Burlington) is second on the team in kills at 2.96 adding 1.08 digs. Junior middle blocker
Wyatt Patterson (Flossmoor, IL/Homewood-Flossmoor) rounds out the top three scorers for McKendree at 2.00 kills per set, hitting .568, which leads the MIVA and ranks fourth nationally. Patterson also leads the team with 20 blocks.
Sophomore setter
Pasquale Fiduccia (Hanover Park, IL/Glenbard North) leads the Bearcats in assists at 10.14, which puts him fourth in the MIVA and 12
th nationally to go with 1.34 digs and 12 blocks. Senior middle blocker
Michael Polizzi (St. Louis, MO/DeSmet Jesuit) has contributed 1.12 kills to pair with 12 blocks and freshman libero
Zach Thompson (Defiance, MO/Francis Howell) has a team high 2.03 digs from the back row to aid the Bearcats defensively.
ABOUT LINDENWOOD UNIVERISTY
The Lions enter the week with a record of 0-5 overall and are led by senior outside hitter Jake Duckworth who averages a team high 2.74 kills per set, while hitting at a .204 clip. Senior opposite Ryan Moore is second on the squad in kills and blocks with an average of 2.65 and 20 total blocks. Freshman middle blocker Sam Schindler rounds out the top three scorers at 2.35 kills per set on .442 attacking to pair with a team high 1.48 blocks per set. Sophomore setter Adam Brewster has dished out 7.47 assist per set to go with 1.05 digs. Junior libero Ryan Vorderer has put up a team high 1.58 digs per set for Lindenwood. The Lions are 0-1 against common opponents of McKendree this season after dropping a 3-2 decision to Concordia University Irvine while the Bearcats topped the Eagles 3-2. McKendree split the season series with Lindenwood last year topping the Lions 3-2 on the road on Feb. 17, before falling 3-1 at home on the final weekend of the season.
ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY OF CHARLESTON
The Eagles are winners of three straight and hold a record of 3-2 heading into Friday's contest. Charleston is paced offensively by junior opposite Rajahl Moxey who averages 2.47 kills and 1.87 digs per set. Junior outside hitter Ryan Santos is second on the team averaging 2.43 kills and 1.14 digs. Sophomore middle blocker Eugene Stuart holds a .358 hitting percentage while putting down 1.81 kills per set and a team high 11 blocks. Junior Anthony Rivera leads Charleston from the setting position with an average of 7.71 per set along with 1.12 digs and nine blocks which ranks second on the team. Junior libero Darrin Depellegrini adds 3.17 digs per set to anchor the Eagles defensive efforts. The teams have yet to share a common opponent this season and Fridays match marks the second career meeting between the programs as McKendree came out victorious in the first contest back in 2015 with a 3-0 home sweep.
ABOUT ALDERSON BROADDUS UNIVERSITY
The Battlers hold a record of 0-4 and are paced by senior outside hitter Obenda Besongngem who has put down 2.86 kills per set to pair with 1.14 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Adam Glader is second on the team with 2.23 kills while hitting .250. Junior opposite Justin Glader comes in third averaging 2.00 kills. Junior setter Benjamin Bravo has passed out 8.25 assists per set to pair with 1.63 digs while senior middle blocker Myles Miller leads the Battlers with 14 blocks and junior libero Erik Arroyo leads the team with 2.43 digs per set from the back row. McKendree is 1-0 all-time versus Alderson Broaddus after sweeping the Battlers in the Bearcats inaugural 2014 season and the teams have yet to share a common opponent this season.
