(LEBANON, Ill., Apr. 5) – The McKendree University men's volleyball team closes out its regular season slate this week with a pair of Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association road contests. The Bearcats travel to Quincy University for a 7 p.m. match up on Thursday, before wrapping up the week against Lindenwood University on Saturday at 7 p.m.
McKendree enters the week with an overall record of 9-18 with a 4-10 mark in MIVA play.
Senior opposite
Maalik Walker (Shorewood, IL/Minooka) has led the Bearcats offensively, averaging 3.45 kills per set to go with 1.15 digs and .50 blocks. Junior outside hitter
Nolan Rueter (Burlington, WI/Burlington) is second on the team with 2.79 kills per set to pair with 1.33 digs. Senior opposite
Andrew Schnittker (Arlington Heights, IL/Buffalo Grove) ranks third with 2.55 kills per set along with 1.00 blocks. Senior middle blocker
Wyatt Patterson (Flossmoor, IL/Homewood-Flossmoor) leads the NCAA in attack percentage, hitting .484 while averaging 1.89 kills per set.
Junior setter
Pasquale Fiduccia (Hanover Park, IL/Glenbard North) ranks 11
th in the nation in assists per set, averaging 9.98 to go with 1.68 digs and .63 blocks per set. Junior middle blocker
Brendan Schmidt (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt West) paces the Bearcats with 1.14 blocks per set this season and averages 1.59 kills. Sophomore outside hitter
Will Frank (Moro, IL/Edwardsville) has added 1.56 kills per set, while sophomore libero
Zach Thompson (Defiance, MO/Francis Howell) has contributed 2.07 digs per set, which ranks third in the MIVA.
ABOUT QUINCY UNIVERSITY
The Hawks own just two conference wins this season, but picked up a weekend split last weekend to move into MIVA Tournament contention with an overall record of 7-19 and a 2-12 mark in league play. Sophomore outside hitter David Siebum leads the way with 2.86 kills and 1.18 digs per set. Senior middle blocker Jarrod Kelso is the only other Hawk with over two kills per set at 2.32 on .291 attacking. Kelso also leads Quincy in total blocks with 85, averaging .89 per set. Junior setter Thane Fanfulik has dished out a team high 7.36 assists per set to pair with 1.47 digs. Sophomore libero Kolbie Knorr averages 2.06 digs per set from the back row and is the reigning MIVA Defensive Player of the Week. McKendree came out victorious in the programs first meeting this season by a 3-1 margin, and holds an all-time record of 3-4 versus the Hawks.
ABOUT LINDENWOOD UNIVERISTY
The Lions enter the week with an overall record of 5-16 with a 4-10 clip in league play. Freshman middle blocker Sam Schindler leads Lindenwood in total points this season with an average of 2.27 kills per set to go with 1.05 blocks per set. Senior opposite Ryan Moore has contributed 2.48 kills, 1.00 digs, and .71 blocks per set. Sophomore setter Adam Brewster has handed out 8.65 assists per set to pair with 1.27 digs. Sophomore middle blocker Connor Hipelius leads the Lions with 1.39 blocks per set, which leads the conference, while junior libero Ryan Vorderer leads the MIVA in digs per set at 2.58. The Bearcats improved their all-time record against the Lindenwood to 2-5 with a 3-1 victory over the Lions in the first meeting this season.
