Box Score (LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 3) – The McKendree University women's volleyball team swept the University of Southern Indiana, 3-0 on Saturday afternoon to end the regular 2018 season. The Bearcats improve to 16-14 overall on the season and 10-8 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC).
The first set contained a lot of back and forth rally play leading to a 27-25 victory for the Bearcats. McKendree came back in the second set after trailing the Screaming Eagles to start the set 3-7. The Bearcats were able to take the set 25-20. With momentum on their side, the Bearcats collected the sweep with a 25-19 victory in the third set.
Recording a personal season high in kills to lead the offense was junior middle blocker
Megan Marks (Colgate, WI/Germantown) with 17 kills in the three set match to accumulate a .485 hitting percentage. Junior outside hitter
Kelly Voss (St. Rose, IL/Mater Dei) was next for the Bearcat offense with 12 kills and then freshman outside hitter
McKenna Ross (Anthem, AZ/Boulder Creek) and junior middle blocker
Baily Craig (Aurora, NE/Giltner) followed, each with seven recorded kills.
Sophomore setter
Gracie Marr (Castle Rock, CO/Castle View), starting at right side for the Bearcats, also recorded a career personal high in digs to lead the defense with 16 digs in the match. Sophomore libero
Alex Tinnin (Festus, MO/Festus) followed closely with 15 digs for the defense and Voss proved to be a key defensive player as well with 11 recorded digs. Marr also set a personal career best at the net for McKendree's defense with six total blocks recorded. Marks was close behind recording five total blocks in the match.
The Bearcats will continue play with post-season competition at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament beginning on Thursday in East Peoria, Ill. The final bracket with matchups will be released Saturday night.
