Bearcat Women Earn Program Best Second Place Finish at the GLVC Championships

FINAL RESULTS

(Romeoville, Ill., May 5) --
McKendree University women's track and field had an outstanding showing at the 2018 Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoor Championships, earning its highest finish in program history. The Bearcats placed second overall with 131 points, finishing behind the host Lewis University who won their third straight conference title and ninth total.

Freshman Mya Watson-Blake won the high jump with a Division II provisional qualifying mark of 1.67m, while junior Shelby Mourey placed sixth with a jump of 1.62m. Watson-Blake also competed in the 100m and long jump, finishing seventh in both events.

Junior Quincy McSweeney defended her GLVC title in the 1500m from last season, crossing the line in a Division II provisional qualifying time of 4:31.80. McSweeney also made the final in the 800m, placing in fourth position. Freshman Kaylee Fann joined her in the 800m final, earning a new collegiate best mark.

Senior Melissa Calcara finished a lengthy schedule with two podium finishes in the hurdle events. She achieved a personal best and Division II automatic qualifying time of 1:01.65 in the 400m hurdles, finishing just behind the winner Amanda Schnabel of Bellarmine.

Sophomore TsiTsi Mahachi had a busy day on the track, competing in three event finals. She earned a bronze medal in both the 100m and 400m and placed fourth in the 200m. Senior Jordyn Looman finished just off the podium in the 400m with a time of 57.01.

Junior Kirby Smith held the top javelin mark in the GLVC coming into the championship weekend and finished in second place, recording a throw of 38.68m. Christina Hill earned a new collegiate personal best mark in the same event, placing fourth with a throw of 35.91m.

The 4x400m relay team consisting of McSweeney, Fann, sophomore Shayna Phillips and senior Mollie Bowman finished in third place with a time of 3:58.18.
