(LEBANON, Ill., April 27) – the McKendree University men's and women's track and field teams competed in the Illinois College True Blue Open meet on Saturday in Jacksonville, Ill. The Bearcats collected six first place finishes, four second place finishes, and three third place finishes.
The men's team collected five first place finishes and one third place while the women's team had one first place finisher, four second place finishes, and two third place rankings in the meet.
Those who earned first place in their events were
Monte Wolke (Sigel, IL/Cumberland),
Zach Llewellyn (Alton, IL/Alton),
Preston Holt (Miami, FL/Miramar),
Quincy McSweeney (Eureka, IL/Eureka),
Trevor White (Highland, IL/Highland), and the men's 4x400m relay team. Wolke finished in first place in the pole vault with a 4.69m final vault. Llewellyn placed first in the shot put with a 15.02m throw. Holt placed in the 110m hurdles with a 14.98 seconds finish. McSweeney and White earned first place in the 800m dash, McSweeney crossing the finish line at 2:14.61 and White at 1:56.34. The men's 4x400m relay team finished in 3:20.20 to earn first place and the team consisted of
Tyler Johnson (South Holland, IL/St. Rita of Cascia),
Darren Arzu (Chicago, IL/Hillcrest),
Tyree Allen (Country Club Hills, IL/Hillcrest), and
Ryan Krause (Troy, IL/Triad).
Second place finishers for McKendree were Kaitlyn Conner,
Kaitlin Hayden (Clinton, IL/Clinton Community),
Tsitsi Mahachi (Harare, Zimbabwe/Chisipite Senior School), and the women's 4x100m relay team. Conner placed in the women's triple jump with a final leap distance of 10.18m. Hayden finished second in the javelin with a 35.49m throw. Mahachi placed in the 100m dash with a final time of 12.28 seconds. The women's 4x100m relay team consisted of Mahachi,
Azlynn Sherrod-Butler (East Moline, IL),
Leah Kloss (Grayslake, IL/Grayslake Central), and
Tiarah Phillips (Springfield, IL/Springfield Southeast ) and they earned second place with a 49.52 finish.
The three Bearcats that placed third in their respective events were
Shayna Phillips (Effingham, Il/Effingham),
Johnathan Bumpers (Alton, IL/Alton ), and Kloss. Phillips earned third place in the women's high jump with a final leap of 1.47m. Bumpers collected third place in the men's high jump with a best height of 1.82. Kloss placed in the 200m dash with a final time of 25.44 seconds.
McKendree will be back in action next weekend, May 2-4, with the Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoor Championships in Indianapolis, Ind.
