(CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. Feb. 13) -- On day two of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Championships, the Bearcat men took a 21.5 lead over the competition following another outstanding day in the water. The men continue to re-write the conference record books, shattering records in the 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle relay, and 400 medley relay.
After day two, the men hold 720.5 points for first place and the women sit in fifth with 373 points.
Friday's events include: 500 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, 800 freestyle relay, women's one meter, and men's three meter.
The day kicked off with the 200 freestyle relay where the women's team of senior Milica Sostarec (Subotica, Serbia/Medical High School), senior Sydney Rey (Columbia, IL/Columbia High School), sophomore Abigail Rumpp (Knoxville, TN/L&N STEM Academy), and senior Meredith Geyer (Germantown, TN/Germantown High School) took fourth place with a time of 1:33.84. The men's team of senior Matija Pucarevic (Belgrade, Serbia/Sixth Belgrade Grammar School), sophomore Gregg Lichinsky (West Des Moines, IA/West Des Moines Valley High School), freshman Caleb Law (Anchorage, AK/Robert Service High School), and junior Alexander Skinner (Namibia, Africa/Windhoek Afrikaans Private School) broke the GLVC record, taking gold with a time of 1:18.94.
In the 400 IM, freshman Fabio Dalu (Cagliari, Italy/Liceo L.B. Alberti Cagliari) continued to showcase his talents with a spectacular time of 3:48.81 to take gold. Sophomore Hallie Dixon (Jeffersonville, IN/Jeffersonville High School) placed top 10, turning in a 4:29.37, taking eighth. Sophomore Garrett Schrock (Peoria, IL/Peoria High School) and freshman Barrett Troup (Little Rock, AR/Homeschool) each competed in the B finals, placing fifth and eighth with times of 4:02.29 and 4:07.42, respectively.
Lichinsky set his second individual conference record in the 100 butterfly with a time of 47.05. Pucarevic followed with bronze, posting a time of 47.43. Freshman Davante Carey (Nassau, Bahamas/Queens College) and sophomore Taras Zherebetskyy (Alghero, Sardegna, Italy/I.T.S Alghero) both competed in the B finals with Carey placing first with a time of 47.94 and Zherebetskyy taking fifth with a 48.98.
For the women, junior Victoria Sananikone (Cedar Park, TX/Cedar Park High School) took third in the B final of the 100 butterfly, turning in a 57.03. Sophomore Haley Rey (Columbia, IL/Columbia High School) also competed in the B final, placing seventh with a time of 57.61.
In the 200 freestyle, Geyer and sophomore Claire Brouillet (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt West High School) took part in the C final, placing second and third. Geyer finished with a 1:52.56 while Brouillet posted a 1:53.83.'
For the men, Skinner took home gold, winning with a time of 1:36.35. Teammate, senior Luca Simonetti (Sassari, Italy/Liceo Scientifico Gulielmo Marconi Sassari), finished right behind Skinner, taking silver with a time of 1:37.25.
The men's 400 medley relay team of Carey, freshman John Heaphy (Eagle River, AK/Eagle River High School), Lichinsky, and Skinner broke the conference record, finishing with a 3:12.06 to capture gold.
On three-meter, junior Lilia de Oliveria Pelaez placed fifth with a score of 320.50 and junior Caitlyn Canadi (South Lyon, MI/South Lyon High School) took seventh with 293.25 points.
On one-meter, sophomore Ethan Larson (Anchorage, AK/Paideia High School) scored 460.60 to secure sixth and sophomore Xavier Flores (Fresno, CA/Clovis West High School) took 10th with 302.10 points.
