BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The McKendree University men's and women's track and field teams continued its indoor season here Friday evening by competing at the Hoosier Open hosted by the University of Indiana and held at the Gladstein Field House.
At Friday's meet hosted by Indiana, the Bearcat men competed in nine events, while the Bearcat women competed in seven events.
Combined, McKendree recorded a total of five Top 5 finishes at the event as the men had four Top 5 finishes, while the women had one Top 5 finish.
On the men's side, sophomore sprinter Malachi Carroll (Omaha, Neb./Iowa Western CC) placed second overall in the 200 meter dash as he ran a time of 22.08. Lipscomb's Ahmed Amaar won the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.91. In addition to Carroll, freshman Deshawn Willis (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) and junior Johnnie Caswell III (O'Fallon, Ill./Triad) went eighth and ninth in the 200 meters with times of 23.28 and 23.35.
The men's other second place finish came in the 60 meter hurdles as graduate student Demetrius Walker (Commerce, Ga./Emmanuel College) placed second in the event with a time of 8.67 in the finals and posted a time of 8.65 in the prelims to finish fourth. Along with Walker, freshman Kai Toolie (Mascoutah, Ill./Mascoutah) was fourth with a time of 9.04. Toolie was sixth in the prelims with a time of 9.09.
Junior Isaac Winter (Highland, Ill./Highland) was the other Top 5 finisher for the Bearcats as he ran a time of 1:27.18 to finish fourth in the 500 meter run.
In the 60 meter dash, the Bearcats placed sixth and seventh in the finals as Caswell III was sixth with a time of 7.03 and Willis was seventh with a time of 7.04.
Other top performances for the Bearcat men came from senior Ayinde Bennett (Alton, Ill./Alton) as he was sixth in the 300 meters with a time of 39.67, while freshman Caleb Kickham (Wentzville, Mo./Fort Zumwalt West) was seventh with a time of 40.77 and sophomore Seth Kasinger (Pekin, Ill./Pekin Community) was eighth in the mile with a time of 4:52.92.
Meanwhile, on the women's side, the top performance was turned in by junior Ndia Johnson (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) in the weight throw as she placed fourth overall in the finals of the event with a toss of 16.80 meter (55-1.50).
Senior Madelyn Tepe (Venedy, Ill./Okawville) was sixth in the 1,000 meter run as she ran a time of 3:17.06, while freshman Brianna Sarver (Pana, Ill./Pana) was seventh in the 200 meter dash finals (27.71) and ninth in the 60-meter dash preliminaries (8.19) and sophomore Famaing Camara (Chicago, Ill./Uplift) was seventh in the 300 meter run with a time of 48.03.
Another strong performance was turned in by junior Sanique Rose (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Iowa Western CC) was 10th in the long jump with a leap of 5.37 meters (17-7.50).
The Bearcats will return to track on Saturday, Dec. 11 as they compete at the UIndy Winter Break Meet hosted by the University of Indianapolis in Indianapolis, Ind.
