The McKendree University women's tennis team defeated the Screaming Eagles of the University of Southern Indiana by a final score of 5-2.
The match opened with doubles play and the Bearcats came out and took all three matches to secure the doubles point. First doubles were held down by the duo of
Viola Cipriani and
Camilla Fonseca, who took the victory 6-3 and second and third doubles won 6-2.
Cipriani and Fonseca kept their momentum going when the match continued into singles play. Both won their matches 6-3, 6-4 at first and fourth singles respectively. The Bearcats final two wins would come from
Sara Kalkenova, who picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win at second singles and
Rhyan Cook earned a 6-3, 6-2 victory at fifth singles.
"Our ladies started strong by sweeping the double," said head coach René Vidal. "They played singles with a lot of poise and we are looking forward to the next challenge."
McKendree returns to the court tomorrow, April 17, when they welcome Webster University to Triad High School for a noon match.
