ALLENDALE, Mich. – The women's tennis team wrapped up their fall season up north at the ITA Midwest Regional in Allendale, Michigan. The regional spanned over three days from Saturday, October 10th to Monday, October 12th. The Bearcats picked up two consolation flight wins of sophomore Emmy Zsigmond in singles and the junior/sophomore duo of Keira Greefs and Diana Calzada.
Emmy Zsigmond began her tournament with a 3-6, 5-7 loss to Nadia Kaewasi of Rockhurst University. She then bounced back for a 6-1, 6-0 win over Elliett Briggs of Tiffin University. She continued her dominant wins with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Malena Moya of Roosevelt University. In the semifinals, she had yet another dominant 6-0, 6-1 victory over Grace Arnold of Tiffin University. In the consolation finals game, she cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 win over Lauren Sweeney of GLVC-member school University of Missouri-St. Louis.
In doubles, the duo of Keira Greefs/Diana Calzada began on a rough note with a 1-8 loss at the hands of Nadia Kaewasi and Elisa Nunez of Rockhurst University. They then bounced back in a big way with an 8-1 victory over Anastasia Hughes and Wren Cunningham of Tiffin University. After a quarterfinal bye they took down Alejandra Chavez and Malena Moya of Roosevelt University 8-3. In the finals their opponents of Efthymia Vasiliki Konstantou and Nadia Baird of Michigan Tech unfortunately had to withdraw due to injury, crowning Greefs and Calzada consolation champions.
