The McKendree University women's tennis team improved to 6-5, and earned their third Great Lakes Valley Conference win, after defeating the Maryville Saints 4-3.

The Saints jumped out to a 1-0 lead after securing wins at first and third doubles, with Mariana Caicedo Mora and Sara Kalkenova winning at second doubles by a score of 6-2.

Singles play would McKendree prevail at first through fourth singles, but the Saints did not make it easy. First and second singles would see Viola Cipriani and Caicedo emerge on top by scores of 6-3, 6-4 and 7-5, 6-3.

Camilla Fonseca would come back from down a set to win at fourth singles, 3-6, 7-5, 7-6(3). Sara Kalkenova would clinch the match for the Bearcats winning in three sets by a score of 6-7(5), 6-3, 7-6(2).

The Bearcats conclude their regular season schedule tomorrow, April 24, when they host Lindenwood at Triad High School for an 11 am match.
