The men's bowling team captured a sixth place finish at Columbia 300 Western Shootout, while the JV team was the top finishing team in its division.

Men's Bowling Places Sixth at Columbia 300 Western Shootout, Daniel Chin Wins Individual Title

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The McKendree University men's bowling team posted a sixth-place overall finish at the 2022 Columbia 300 Western Shootout, which was held here at the Western Bowl.
 
At the two-day event, McKendree recorded a total of 9,074 pins to post its sixth-place finish. In Saturday's first day of action, the Bearcats were in second place after recording a total of 6,098 pins and then totaled 2,980 pins in Sunday's 16-game Baker format.

Saint Xavier University took home first place honors as a team as they recorded a two-day total of 9,234 pins to win by six pins over runner-up Calumet-St. Joseph, who totaled 9,228 pins. Rock Valley was third with a total of 9,153 pins.

McKendree was one of six schools to record over 9,000 pins for the event.

In Sunday's final day of action, Indiana Tech was the top overall team with 3,181 pins, while Cumberlands (Ky.) was second with 3,178 pins and Saint Xavier was third with 3,142 pins.
 
In the junior varsity competition, McKendree claimed the title as they recorded 8,444 pins, including 3,107 pins in Baker play. University of Saint Francis (Ill.) was second in the JV competition as they totaled 7,933 pins.

Fifth-year senior Daniel Chin (Daly City, Calif./Calumet College of St. Joseph) became the second straight Bearcat to finish as a tournament champion as Chin posted an average of 223.2 average in six individual games on Saturday as he totaled 1,339 pins. Chin joins senior Jorge Rodriguez (Yauco, Puerto Rico/Lincoln Memorial) took home first place honors at the season opening Midwest Collegiate Championships on Oct. 1-2.

Chin recorded six games over 200 at the event, including a high of 259 in the first game. He also had a 224 and 223 in the second and fifth games respectively. He won by two pins over runner-up Nickolas Archacki from Marian University (Ind.), who totaled 1,337 pins and averaged 222.8 pins.

In addition, to Chin, Rodriguez finished tied for sixth overall with a total pinfall of 1,270 and he averaged 211.7 per game, including a high game of 257. He recorded five games of 200 or better.

The Bearcat No. 3 individual bowler was junior Jeremy Kinealy (St. Louis, Mo./DeSmet Catholic), who recorded a total pinfall of 1,173 to finish 25th overall. Kinealy averaged 195.5 per game and recorded two games of 200 or better, including a high game of 211.

Meanwhile, the top bowler for the JV men was freshman Darren Zombro (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) as he finished 58th overall in the individual standings with a total pinfall of 1,102 as he averaged 183.7 per game and had two games of 200 or better, including a high game of 212.

Junior Connor Brink (Rochester, NY/Monroe County) finished 73rd overall as he was the No. 2 bowler for the JV team as he recorded a total pinfall of 1,082 and averaged 180.3 per game. Brink had one game of 200 and that was a 234 in the first game.

The Bearcats will continue their season next weekend (Oct. 22-23) as they compete at the Lions Classic hosted by Lindenwood University and held at the St. Charles Lanes in St. Charles, Mo.
