LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The McKendree University men's bowling team brought home the championship in both the varsity and junior varsity divisions of this past weekend's Boilermaker Classic held at Mike Aulby's Arrowhead Bowl.
In the varsity division, McKendree amassed a total of 8,698 pins to win by 416 pins over runner-up Purdue University (8,282), who hosted the 12-team event. Judson University was third with 8,103 pins.
Meanwhile, in the JV Division, McKendree sent two teams and they finished first and second overall with pinfall totals of 7,916 and 7,675. Midway was third in the division with a pinfall total of 7,552.
The top individual performer was fifth-year senior
Daniel Chin (Daly City, Calif./Calumet College of St. Joseph) as he recorded a total of 1,161 pins in his five traditional games. Chin averaged 232.2 per game and recorded five games with 200 or more pins, including a high of 257 in the fourth game.
In addition to Chin, junior
Kolby Bennett (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) was the top individual for the second JV Team as finished third overall with a total pinfall of 1,160 and averaged 232 per game and a high game of 277 in his fifth traditional game.
Chin and Bennett were the two Bearcats to earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team at the event.
Along with Chin, two other varsity bowlers finished in the Top 10 of the individual standings as senior
Jake Feher (Levitttown, Pa./Pennsbury) and junior
Nicholas Blagojevic (Belleville, Ontario) were ninth and 10th overall with total pinfalls of 1,076 and 1,070 respectively. Feher had two games of 200 with a high of 265, while Blagojevic had three games of 200 with a high of 235 in the first and second games.
The top individual bowler for the first JV Team was junior
Gavin Davidson (William Street, Pa./Penn Manor), who finished 13th overall with a total pinfall of 1,027 as he averaged 205.4 per game and had a high game of 225, while sophomore
David Johnson (Denver, Colo./Cherokee Trail) was 14th overall of the first JV Team as he recorded 1,020 pins and averaged 204 per game with a high game of 246.
At the event, the Bearcats had eight of the Top 20 bowlers among its three teams competing.
McKendree will return to action this coming weekend (Nov. 5-6) as they compete at the Brunswick Southern Collegiate Classic held at Bowlero Austell in Marietta, Ga.
