Women’s Swim Sits in 10th at NCAA Championships; Carvalho Finishes 6th in 1000 Freestyle

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - McKendree women's swimming ranked 10th overall after Wednesday's races at the NCAA Division II championships at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind. The Bearcats accumulated 48 points, just two points behind ninth-placed West Florida.  

Freshman Ana Cecilia Carvalho recorded the highest finished in program history at the championships, clocking a 10:03.60 time in the 1000 freestyle for 6th place in finals.  

Junior diver Regan Gubera also made the podium in 1-meter diving finals, securing eighth place with a score of 398.65.  

In the 50 freestyle preliminaries, freshman Karley Sonnenberg finished 18th while senior Abigail Rumpp and freshman Gabriela Novias Lima were 29th and 31st, respectively. Sophomore Sarah Gormley competed in the 200 individual medley, recording 22nd place overall.  

In the 200 medley relay, McKendree's team of Rumpp (backstroke), Gormley (breaststroke), Sonnenberg (butterfly), and Novias Lima (freestyle) grabbed a school record of 1:42.50 to earn 11th place overall.
