Box Score 2 SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - McKendree University women's tennis fell in two Great Lakes Valley Conference contests last weekend against Lewis University and the University of Illinois-Springfield. For the season, the Bearcats sport an 8-3 overall record and a 2-1 record in the GLVC.
Against Lewis, McKendree grabbed one doubles win in the No.2 match as senior Mariana Caicedo Mora and junior Rhyan Cook defeated the Flyers 6-4. In singles, fifth-year senior Manuela Barriga took the No.1 match 5-7, 6-3, 6-3, while junior Camilla Fonseca snagged the No.5 match victory 6-2, 6-2. Ultimately, the Flyers came away with a 4-2 win over the Bearcats.
The Bearcats faced Illinois-Springfield on Saturday, narrowly falling to the Prairie Stars, 4-3. McKendree earned the point for doubles as senior Viola Cipriani and Fonseca dominated the No.1 match 6-0 and Caicedo Mora and Cook picked up their second No.2 win of the weekend 7-5. For singles, Barriga defeated Illinois-Springfield's Sina Skjelstad 6-1, 7-6 for her second straight No.1 match win. Junior Maria Vitoria Salomao posted scores of 6-3, 6-3 for a No.6 match victory.
Coming up, the Bearcats will take on the No.7-ranked University of Indianapolis on Saturday, April 15 at 11 a.m. The match will be held on the campus of Southwestern Illinois College in Belleville, Ill. Saturday's match will be the Bearcats' last regular-season competition before the GLVC tournament begins on April 21.
