INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - McKendree University men's and women's tennis is set to open play at the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament on Friday, April 21 at Center Grove High School in Greenwood, Ind.
McKendree men's tennis earned a #2 seed for the East after compiling a 12-4 overall record and a 4-1 conference record. In the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, senior Leonardo Schmitz Frederico sits at No.13 in Division II while freshman Tomas Leston ranks No.33. No.1 doubles pair Schmitz Frederico and freshman Benedek Szombathelyi also rank No.31 in Division II doubles.
With the No.2 seed, the men's tennis Bearcats will face the No.3 seed from the West, Drury, in the first round of the tournament on Friday at 1 p.m. ET. McKendree claimed the crown in 2022 with the program's first-ever GLVC championship.
McKendree women's tennis will make its first GLVC tournament appearance since 2014 after posting an 8-5 overall record and a 2-3 conference record. McKendree posted conference wins over Lewis University and the University of Missouri-St. Louis for the season. In the GLVC tournament, the Bearcats earned a No.4 seed in the East and will face the No.1 seed in the West, Drury, at 9 a.m. ET.
